Some of the condos were designed for the possibility of owners merging units - it might not be structurally possible to do so for buildings that are not designed for it.

Okay that makes sense I always wondered as most high rises are column and slab with minimal sheer walls a project like sky Tower I couldn't see being easy to rework this but forma for example a lot of those studio units would just be separated by a steel stud wall so you could easily put a door between the two units and create almost like an in-law suite probably showing my lack of knowledge of the development sector here but the thing I love about Urban TO is there's always someone to teach me

I think the vast majority of high-rise condos in Toronto take a sheer wall structural form. There are many reasons for this, the first being that it is a very stiff and simple structural system that works well in resisting lateral forces (wind, earthquake etc). It is a simple system to build with repeating floor plates and provides excellent sound and fire protection between units.

There is literally zero chance that the second tower will ever see the light of day in its current form/tenure. I will happily eat my hat, nay my head, if it turns out I'm being overly critical, but we've got far more chance of seeing new Class A office towers than this Airbnb heyday nostalgia trip. We've reached, and quite possibly just passed "peak bullshit" now.
I am in the camp that it will likely still be built, just not anytime soon. Maybe not even in our lifetimes...but it will eventually see the light of day.

...so I'll will be happy drop off my hat for you to consume at your tombstone once they put the diggers to the ground. And if I am still around myself, that is. 😼

Up she rises. I now have clear view of the full footprint. At least for another few weeks.
