Yeah, I briefly considered doing Doors Open but with a 6 year old in tow it would have been an absolute no-go due to the lineups. Glad I anticipated that potential misery (both for him and myself!) and did other things instead.

Yes, if appears Don Jail, City Hall and Old City Hall had lineups of over one hour. A friend told me they waited nearly two hours for the TD Centre.

The silver lining: People are enthusiastic about civic architecture and history!

I wonder if the organizers would consider holding the event over two weekends, or at sites with larger attendance, enforcing a time-entry ticket system?

I'm surprised. I thought you love line ups? 😆

I had planed on meeting my friend at the TD centre. When she got there, the wait was 2 hours and possibly a chance of not even getting in. So we cancelled doors open and went for a nice lunch instead. I used to love this event. But i don't think i will waste my time next year. if It was held over two weekends, it would sure help with the crowds at some of the more popular sites.

It's Torontoitis rearing it's ugly head yet again - a once cool, interesting event is now ruined and unenjoyable due to typical overcrowding by bandwagoners. Can't escape it here. Every street festival, Nuit Blanche, Luminato, Distillery Christmas Market, and now seemingly Doors Open have headed down this dark path.

Something hilarious I found about today. The Fox Theatre in The Beaches is having a Cat Video festival in two weeks.
It's basically one hour long of video clips of cats doing funny/weird things.

Mostly targeted to kids, of course, but it has the benefit of being a three minute walk from Balmy Beach, so it can be a part of a larger day out.

After mentioning it in another thread this morning, I got an email early this afternoon with the title of "Surprise! Just For Laughs Toronto Is Back".
Randolph Theatre (Bathurst St) looks like one new venue for it I don't recall them using before.

Edit: From what I can see so far, it looks like shows are simply being sold on an individual basis, and not some kind of pass or number of 'credits' system used to reserve shows, as they had been doing for several years up until the most recent JFL Toronto Fest in 2023.

🤣
"When you think Montreal, you think international flavour, great cuisine and beautiful women," added Slayton, who appears in the film Dreamgirls. "When you think Toronto, you think the bloody Blue Jays. The town has as much cachet as Detroit."

Tamil Fest along Markham Road in Scarborough got cancelled for this year. The event originally set for August 23 & 24 would've been in its 11th year and expected to bring in 250,000 people

I wonder what is causing all these cancelations and downsizing?

Years ago Buskerfest and Woofstock took up entire city blocks but now are relegated to a park.

Pride had to downsize considerably to survive. Even the Beaches Jazz Fest did as well.

Tamil Fest and Taste of the Danforth are both axed.

I wonder if the era of large street festivals is over?
