If you guys want to talk politics, take it to a politics thread. This thread is for infrastructure and operations on Eglinton Line 5. That's it.

I get what you're saying. However, I tend to believe Eglinton's problems were unique. They had what appears to be 2+ years of software and/or signalling system issues (more than one issue). Is it reasonable to believe they'd burn through 2 years after civil infrastructure is completed for the Ontario Line as well?
The problems on the Crosstown with the signalling were not unique. Not at all.

One of the things that needs to be done with any signalling software package is to establish all of the different routing possibilities and their limits. This not being done can cause the system to crash if a non-configured route, or allow trains to move beyond their limits and cause things like collisions to happen. Both of these things happened with the Crosstown.

But they have also happened with the Urbalis system used on the subway system, and on Seltrac elsewhere. And there are even Wikipedia entries listing accidents that have happened due to incorrect signal system configuration.

I have heard of problems with signalling, like Seltrac in Edmonton (which IMO was a unique situation). I think it boils down to me not believing/hoping that the Ontario Line will be riddled with the same problems for 2+ years. I believe it's a general rule of thumb that Chinese metros will open 1 year after civil infrastructure completion.

However it would not surprise me if it takes 2 years for the Ontario Line. 3 years I would consider unlikely even for a Metrolinx project.

So, a couple of things to keep in mind with the setup of the Ontario Line that may simplify things when the time comes to test the system.....

1) It's a greenfield installation, meaning that they are installing it from scratch and without any other systems in the way.
2) There are fewer crossovers and spare tracks, meaning that there are fewer routings that need to be configured.

Now, granted that 1) didn't seem to help things with the Crosstown, but I should point out that 2) creates its own set of long term headaches with the system and its ability to keep on operating in various conditions.

When will they update the "Efficient TTC" smartphone app? See https://efficientttc.weebly.com/

on your subway rides! EFFICIENT TTC shows you which subway car doors are near which escalators and stairs. Never be caught at the wrong end of the station again!

I don't see Line 5 nor Line 6 on the app. Still showing "Eglinton West" instead of "Cedarvale". Shows Version 1.3 from 3 years ago.

Unless there is a newer or better app somewhere?

Personally, this should be part of any or all transit agencies wayfinding.

It's now May. How is TSP implementation and has it made any improvement?
Pretty sure a new report came out recently scrapping the 25 km/h speed restriction for streetcars when crossing intersections (not including intersections with intersecting streetcar tracks, those are a speed restriction of their own) starting in late May.

Wondering if that will be translated over to lines 5 and 6. Seems likely.
