I happened to go by this site today so I snapped a photo, there isn't anything remarkable about it to say the least, the center of the site which I didn't get a picture of still has 2 or so floors left to go then 6 left on the tower if I counted properly, knowing how this crews been going (1 floor a month) it's going to be April 2025 or so by the time this tops out. Drewlo is by no means in any rush to lease this thing, on their website the marketing still says 2022 for the commercial units.

In the front of this picture there is the future 332 Charles St site by Vive (fenced off property, 27 floors).

Does anyone know why they don't finish building this? Are they scared of not having any interest from tenants or why has it been sitting essentially abandoned for so long?

Drewlo has always been known to move notoriously slow on projects this is no different, they have another project in KW which is significantly smaller (8 floors) which started in the summer of 2021 and only started occupancy in the fall of 2024. This is really no different. They did fully pause construction during covid for a couple of months, they also had some issues with sub trades at one point which have delayed the project.

Drewlo is also in the rental market so they have incentive to finish but they have deep enough pockets that they are willing to go slow and steady as seen through their other projects.

The mechanical penthouse on the second tower is finally being poured. The retail units fronting King St have some activity with permits issued for a nail salon (unit 2) and an Indian grocery store (unit 1). Now that Kitchener has changed their public facing permit system one can't see applications however before the update there was a permit application for a convenience store (this will do extremely well with the high school across the street).
