Did we ever figure out what that lower crane is for Is that another site or is that part of this tower
It is to build the northern portion of the podium which cantilevers over the subway tunnel.

I hope Mr. 42 wasn't taking a peek to see if I was doing anything naughty or nice from those high perches... >.<

I'm not sure there's been a single one of these heritage/condo mashups I've found impressive.

The heritage structures not only look completely out of scale with the massive condos, they also highlight just how far our standards have fallen.

Ultimately it seems like they're kept because it's mandated by law or good for marketing...but not because they're truly valued.

Yeah, the facade-ification of Toronto is really odd, and in at least 90% of cases done terribly. Not even in a bold kind of way, like the ROM, but in a lazy, cut-and-paste haphazard way that disrespects the existing architecture.

Toronto's not a museum, this is a good way to balance preserving heritage with adding new housing, it's layers of history. The large setbacks from the church makes it almost look like it's on a site bahind it.
Toronto's actually better than NYC in this regard, the latter still demolishes historical buildings entirely, with hardly any facade retentions in Manhattan.

...I am not sure a 34 story gothic cathedral tower would work here instead. Would be a bit tight on unit sizes for one. And rope pulled elevator system would likely tire very quickly with residents for another. >.<
