‘A battle for who belongs’: Downtown Toronto condo suing charity next door for $2.3 million
I think it is pretty obvious that this suit is egregious, as the charity existed long before the condo and the residents, and most of these things they claim are either hard to prove or likely didn't happen. I hardly doubt the church is saying, hey, please come here and do as many drugs as you can.
It's very frustrating when those with plenty or at least enough, don't see humanity in those with almost nothing, and see them as a nuisance only to be hidden away someplace. (Manhattan under Giuliani for example.)
Homelessness can be experienced by anyone. There are many people now on the streets of Toronto who were once stable and affluent.
Interestingly, two weeks back, when I was in Montreal, someone experiencing homelessness asked us for food. We had take out from a great Lebanese place that makes cheap but massive sandwiches, so we gave them half of ours - we still had more than enough. Then again last week someone who may or may not have been homeless asked if I could get them a meal. I thought maybe this is a scam, but then if someone is spending time to scam for free food, they can't be doing great. I am lucky in life, the least I can do is buy a cheap meal for someone who has no place to go if asked?
Honestly, if the condo board just spoke to the Church first, I imagine they could have come up with a compromise. Perhaps a donation for added programming to clean up the site a bit or added security at the Church if it truly is a concern. But I suspect this is more about feeling entitled to have purchased here, and hoping this suit means the church has to shutter its operations.
My money is on this lawsuit being thrown out. I hope Sanctuary goes after costs as well.
