Another pet peeve - is this normal ? There are essentially no bikes available throughout Y&E atm:

Are you suggesting that with 457 docks across 23 stations in that screenshot.....that you were expecting more than 6 available bikes.......?

What kind of entitlement is this?

Pffft.

****

LOL

Yes, sadly, this is all too normal. The network has a few nodes like this.....

Hehe, my apologies then — I didn’t realize that was an unreasonable expectation 🤪. Let me give a bit of context: I was trying to use it today at NYCC, and the situation was pretty similar to what that screenshot showed i.e. hard to find any stations with available bikes. I know the network at NYCC is still expanding, so I wanted to compare it to other areas and noticed the same issue.

Still, it’s a bit unfortunate — definitely something that’ll need improvement, though hopefully continued network growth will eventually take care of that.

I don’t understand why it’s going to take them YEARS to implement a rewards program to encourage cyclists to ride from full racks to empty ones like other systems have already had for a long time.

But yeah, people like to coast the bikes downhill and then find alternate means of getting back up the hill. It’s been a problem since the start of the program. Downtown we have the opposite problem of our racks always being full and not being able to find a dock.

And those six bikes are probably not actually working, which is why they haven't been signed out.
I suspect you're being a little glib with this, but just so that others know, bikes that are disabled (ie someone pressed the wrench and red light is on) don't show up as available on the map, but I know plenty have had experiences which seem at odds with that.

Here's what the API shows for a station at Balliol St / Yonge St that has 3 bikes available on the map. When I started this comment the station had 4 bikes and 1 e-bike was taken so I updated the screenshot
screenshot from Bike Share Toronto API showing how many bikes are available, disabled, and other related properties

properties that begin with is_ can either be 1 or 0 which mean true or false.
last_reported is a timestamp, which in this case is Thursday, October 16, 2025 12:14:29 PM

Incentives are helpful for slight balancing but with something like this you need trucks to move bikes in scale.

I was glancing at the Bikeshare System Map a few minutes ago........and something caught my eye.

Many here have a fondness for E-Bikes and often have trouble finding them.

I found them, LOL

37 of them at one station, in Bloor West Village.

Frankly, with the additional fee for e-bikes, I am no longer fan of taking them on my downhill journey downtown. In an ideal world, we have proper distribution of bikes in the system and option to choose, but more often than not there is one remaining bike in my area at any given time and it could be an e-bike. Or, they actually get a bikeshare van up to Midtown and they restock a station with 15 e-bikes and 0 regular bikes.
