I know it is an naive dream, but I have been hoping for Cumberland Square to actually materialize one day :(
Couple of big names were biting at that one about 3 years ago, but all ended up leaving it as it's an insanely complicated build. The plans - as currently envisioned - also suck pretty intensely...

Fire up the backhoe..... LOL..... time to excavate/un-bury this thread.

Nothing like doing this early on a Sunday morning, before brunch, when most UT'ers are still napping.

Before I get into it....

We need to credit to a UT poster in another thread.............a very long time ago......

He wasn't fully right........but did see something...

Well.................

Height: 65 storeys - residential

Architect: AS+GG

@Paclo

@3Dementia will want in on this.

If @UrbanAffair pops in before the mods, he can make the requisite changes to the title.

The App:

There are actually more.........but UT's server would explode, besides, I need room for other stuff. Paclo and 3D will wish to make note the underlying renders are very large, those above range from 40-90% of the original size.

@HousingNowTO will wish to make note that the proposal is currently silent on tenure and does not commit to affordable housing in exchange for waiving office replacement, instead suggesting that the proponent would be open to such as a community benefit.

Paclo and @interchange42 will want to note that this proposal consolidates zoning with Hotel Victoria for which UT has a thread. The owners there 'Quadreal' are named here, along with the Lanterra subsidiary. But as per the description the actual building here remains Lanterra.

This is listed as a sale of air rights by Quadreal. The hotel remains.

6 elevators to 649 units. is 1 elevator per 108 units.

@Northern Light props to you for finding these on a sunday!

Unfortunate. When you said the plan suck pretty intensely, are you saying the current iteration? Or you saying the whole design sucks.

I kinda like it... that thing is the piece that will fully flesh out Yorkville IMO :/

If anything is developed on this site I think the current building warrants being preserved or at least the facade. We need all the stone cladding and warmth it brings to the city that we can get imo

I have a lot more time for heritage / old stuff than most here, but regarding this building specifically, are you well?

Yeah…what’s there now isn’t pretty. Does anyone know of its history? Looks like it replaced something that had better days.

It was the site of the Globe building before it moved over to King & York:

^I can see why AS + GG went for the rounded corner here. That's a nice touch and homage...

...but nothing will ever beat the original thing that was there though, IMO.

And thank you for posting all that @thecharioteer! /bows

I know it's not the nicest looking building, but I think sentiment here is with soooo much glass in newer type buildings, anything we can do to keep some old school stone isn't a bad idea.
