Considering the size of the site and its heavily used urban context, I believe this might be the ideal location for the City to start to conceive of a new public space category—like an urban plaza, green square, or something similar that might more realistically match what is feasible on a small site like this compared to the broader expectations of the community. The word “park” conjures up many things, from active recreation to dog off-leash zones, while a plaza, square, or “place" in Montreal” is simply a public space where people gather, sit, and chat. Not calling it a “park” in the traditional sense frees the City from having to “pack” it with the endless “park” amenities that are often expected of “parks.” .... It will also lower the need for maintenance…
