As this project trudges along, Cllr. Jamal Myers has an odd letter/motion to the Economic and Community Development Ctte concerning this one.
From the above:
On recommendation one, I've long been uncomfortable with anything that feels like ghettoization to me, where we segregate groups based on appearance or ethnicity.
This already exists, though for the most part, it is targeted either at linguistic groups where a senior may not be fluent in English or for the deeply religious of one group or another.
I consider that to be a bit more functional......... My concern isn't that we add salt cod or rice and peas to the menu here, its much more that aside from segregation of a sort; that if there are issues with outcomes and
the way seniors of a certain background are treated elsewhere by either staff or fellow residents, that we're glossing over addressing that simply moving people elsewhere.

On recommendation number two, I'm all in favour of investing in ecological restoration in Brimley Woods or creating a new Meadoway along the Finch hydro corridor, but do we need to add that to the budget of an LTC whose economics are already challenged, and has been years in the offing?
How about we just fund the work through Forestry or the TRCA, directly?
