That explains why the circus construction activities started so early this year and why the structures that are being assembled lack a certain degree of circularity we've grown accustomed to.

They've been trucking in supplies and assembling trusses for about a week now:

My question is when does the construction activities take place if this location is being rented to Cirque every year

It's a huge plot of land. The circus occupies the portion of the site slated for the last phases of development. As far as I can see, the bypass road alignment is also outside of the current circus grounds. Basically, Phase 1 of this project can proceed with the circus also being there.

Makes sense
Got it

The outer shell of the venue complete with entrance tents looked finished at least 2 weeks before the first show, they must have been working on setting up the inside since then (more on that later)

The two smaller tents are used as the entrance vestibule with concession stands and a gift shop:

The main hangar-sized structure of the venue is actually a tent within a tent, a nesting tent of sort. There is the outer white shell that completely encompasses a smaller black tent within (also hangar-sized, just a little smaller. As a visitor, you go in between the walls of these shells to get to your entrance/gate and up into the stands.

The venue itself is huge compared to their usual round tent. Not a sellout crowd, like it used to be in the previous years.

I'll close off this post with a couple of mics pics, pictures from the show to follow in a separate post.

This is the third year Cirque du Soleil brings their shows to this location. This year the show they've brought us Ovo - an insect-themed show with a heavy focus on acrobatics. The evening was filled with magnificent performance throughout. As usual with any Cirque du Soleil performances: simply magic.

There is some action on the site. An excavator, a bulldozer, and a dump truck, moving and piling up a lot of earth. Any ideas what might be going on?
Just went past on the GO (sorry no pic) and the entire remainder of the site near the future GO station has been scraped and levelled. Big pile of material too.

You can see the photo updates on the recent work done to this site in the Phase 1 thread:

Ever since Cirque du Soleil wrapped up and moved out for the season in mid-July, there's been work on the site where this phase of the project is supposed to be constructed. Basically, in the month and a half, they graded the site flat with the exception of couple sizeable mounds of dirt. Here are some shots of the entire site:

The foundation for the future showroom and the white storage shed next to BMO on the intersection of Park Lawn and Lake Shore. No movement on the showroom construction for a year and a half now:
