Such a fun night out at the ballpark last night with 8004, yes 8004 others!!!! Hawks won, good game, great weather.

A couple of things though:

1. MANY people were late due to most driving down and cause backups up the hill to Sask drive. Buses and ambulances had trouble navigating and it was a bit of kaos out there for a good 30-40 minutes after the start of the game. They really need to push park and ride or promote LRT to Bay and walk down.

2. Because of a near sellout, concessions were absolutely overrun and took 25-30min to get anything. I know it is difficult to sometimes predict attendance, but something needs to be done there to offer more options for POS or grab and go without a teller. The people in front of us lost 2 full innings because of it just trying to get food for their kids.

3. Imagine if the large parking lot to the north was an event centre, brewery, destination food spot. I'm envisioning something medium in scale to make it work, keep some parking, but somewhere else for people to gather pre/post game, move the big bat there, create a spot for non-gamedays and start to work on more reasons to build-out Rossdale.

Also was there. Great night. Comedy festival made the roads chaos.

Luckily, very fast and easy on bikes 🙂 more people need to figure out transit or bikes.

Took our friends 95 minutes to drive from SE henday area to parking. Told them Valley line is only 15 minutes to walk even though it can feel far from the ballpark.

^Some great ideas! I would definitely be in favor of having the big metal bat relocated and creating a gathering spot on the lot to the north.
They really should move the bat to make it an actual attraction and photo op location. Where it is now makes it pretty difficult to stop and get a picture with it.

I'd love to see the baseball bat relocate to outside of RE/MAX Field, however I'm almost certain the indigenous folks are against building absolutely anything in the Rossdale area (see the gondola debacle).

Had a really good time at the game today. Lots of people in attendance. The food was great and the beer was cold.

The Riverhawks also broke last season’s WCL total attendance record with 131,958.

Our city has an appetite for sports.

Now there's an idea, putting the big bat close to the ball park ... probably way to sensible to actually happen here.

I get that this is only a Summer Collegiate League for College student athletes but there is this attendance thing... too bad the Trappers of AAA fame were lost to Texas (good Edmonton run from 1982 to 2004 *I believe) but here's a valid comparison to how the Oilers grew...

A similar kind of success to Oilers when they sold out the Edmonton Gardens.
I think Summer League and AAA can share the field at the same times (different days) and it would be a huge success/

If I remember correctly the biggest reason the Trappers left is because they were the only team in the Pacific Coast league north of the border left after the team down south folded.

Perhaps the main reason for the Trappers' demise was that AAA wanted out of Canada.

I may have forgotten details, but I believe they brought in a rule at least for a time, that the home team would have to pay the travel costs of the visiting teams. Nolan Ryan bought the team and that was the end of AAA in Canada. Sad, really.

This is exactly why.

Also the Trappers were a highly successful franchise and the Texas buyer thought that the club's success was transferable.

So they wanted out because there was only one team left in Canada and it was too much trouble crossing the border for just one team.

Travel distance and climate challenges, ie. a very, very short season and way too late to get going.
