The fact that AI is currently being used to write student essays, steal jobs of programmers, and using HUGE amounts of resources (water, computer parts etc) is IMHO breaking society. I'm also not saying that it doesn't have a purpose in anything, it's true that it can help find cures for disease and stuff like that, it just doesn't have a purpose in the general consumer world.

I think it's good to specify that there is a difference between Generative AI (or GenAI) and other, utilitarian, versions of AI like analytical and evaluative AI (i.e., cancer detection AI). Obviously, in the case of UT, GenAI is what is most commonly used (and detested). I personally would say that a) you should declare that AI has been used for a post, b) posters should generally avoid using AI images that are not easily determined as AI (i.e. don't use AI to create a realistic rendering of a project), and c) frequent usage of GenAI for posting should probably be considered equivalent to spam posting if not following points a and b. Again, as you said, AI has its purposes, and can be used to enhance someone's responses, but shouldn't be used to falsify anything or utilized as a reputable or trustworthy source of evidence.
(Also, as an aside, the water issue is a strange one, as the data centres usually pull a lot of clean water when built, but then just constantly cycle it as coolant, so the water isn't lost per se, but it is trapped for some time)
