Not really the type of fountain this thread seems to be covering, but this is the only relevant webpage I stumbled on trying to sleuth around. I took a picture of the drinking fountain at Cliff Lumsdon Park. I emailed the city to ask if they have any background on it, but curious if anyone here knows anything.

I believe that is the "Pumping Station Monument" described below:

The above is a TRCA Project Page for Erosion Control/Shoreline reconstruction in this park, due to begin imminently.

Alright UTers, sleuthing time or input from those who may remember. Was this concrete sculpture thingy a fountain? And if so when was it built, when did it run from, why was it turned off? Have a vague memory from when I was 6 maybe that my mom told me it was a fountain, and people used to put soap in it all the time. But it's possible she was talking about the one at Gerrard and Parliament.

Location, NW corner of Parliament and Wellesley. This is the only pic I could find, which may show wetness and thus prove my belief. Still, amazing that I can't find any info on it. Image from '72 maybe via TO Archives

the fountain in Clarence Square Park has been in this state for a couple of years now. If the City is not willing or able to fix it maybe curate a rotating series of poster art exhibits.. the pixelated Mona Lisa and 'Dont Text Me' posters are getting a bit tired..

To me, this is in @AHK 's sphere of influence, so I think we should ask him what's being done about this....

This was in Ausma Malik's July Newsletter:

Clarence Square Park Improvements in partnership with the TDWBIA

You may have noticed some recent activity in Clarence Square Park — our office has been actively working to revitalize this important downtown green space.

Following the resolution of the encampment last December, I brought forward a motion directing City staff to explore opportunities to improve the park.

My team and I have worked closely with the Toronto Downtown West BIA and the City to support both short- and long-term enhancements to make Clarence Square more welcoming, vibrant, and accessible for everyone. Here’s what’s underway:
  • New Temporary Deck Activation: On the east side of the park, the BIA is installing a multi-use terrace featuring bistro tables, Muskoka chairs, and a colourful artistic backdrop. This space will host free public programming like live music, game tournaments, and outdoor painting lessons.
  • City-Led Improvements: City crews have already completed several upgrades, which include additional benches, structural tree trimming, and repairs to the central water fountain.
We’re also exploring future improvements such as enhancements to the off-leash dog area, new amenities and tree planting, and public art installations.

As development continues and the local population grows, revitalizing and activating our limited downtown park spaces is a key priority. These improvements aim to enhance safety, encourage community use, and bring new life to Clarence Square.

To learn more about the BIA’s work, visit: yourexperienceawaits.ca

Have ideas or feedback on what you’d like to see in the park long-term? We’d love to hear from you! Fill out our survey here.

Don't have an answer but found a different photo.

I used to walk past here 20 years ago and am pretty sire it WAS a fountain (or a water feature) similar to the one on Gerrard but ....
It would've been well over 20 years ago that it was running, and a hundred percent pre-1990. I might clamber over it when I have time to see if I can find nozzles. The rest of the sculpture has been filled with dirt and plants so won't be able to find a drain. If it is in fact a fountain (It's looking likely tho).

I don't have an answer, but I always similarly wondered if the Gzowski Memorial, a 1960s monument on the western waterfront, had a fountain originally. It has these basin-like spaces that are bridged on three sides and allow access to the central space with a bust of Sir Casimir Gzowski.

It would look striking if the basins were filled with water. With that said, there would probably then be a need for railings around the basins, which would detract for the minimalist design.

Some fountain pics from the summer.
If you know where the 3rd fountain is, you’re a true Torontonian and probably a scholar.

I know that one.........

That's the fountain behind McLennan Labs, also next to Lash Miller, in this pic, you're looking south, but if you turned right (west) you'd be able to see Huron St and the Earth Sciences bldg That is my Alma Mater
