PFR in their usual confused (and always much delayed) mess. Sad!

The topography plan was likely Toronto Water, but the TRCA/Parks would have had a look at the plans. The vegetation management and the restoration plan are entirely on Parks.

As @Northern Light predicted, the trees planted in the wet area below Stan Wadlow Park don't appear to be doing well. Most have zero signs of new growth. From yesterday:

There was some budding on a few (see photo #3), but mainly where the ground was dryer.

I had a look at this site today...................death toll is 80-85% in the wetter area........

Well over 100 caliper size trees dead..............financial cost, over $100,000

Clearly I called this, but I'm not happy to be right, I'm disgusted..............

Nothing to do with the Masterplan, but as someone who lives near this park, I need to report the smell yesterday and today is pretty much nausea inducing.

There was a major sanitary sewage leak near Warden/St. Clair.

Apparently the active leak was remedied by late yesterday afternoon..........but it was enough to turn the entire creek dark grey/black..........for a distance of several km. I can't imagine much that was alive in the creek survived.

The local FB thread was talking about this... That's awful

I think this has been going on at a smaller scale for some time. I went on a hike in that area for the first time ever back in May and it smelled like sewage pretty badly. I assumed then it was always like that until I saw people complaining about it recently.

COMMUNITY UPDATE: Sewage spill in Taylor–Massey Creek

City staff and my office were alerted to a potential sewage spill in Taylor-Massey Creek late on Friday, August 22 near Warden and St. Clair Avenues. This was very concerning, and I have been working with city staff to make sure that a cleanup is underway and that this issue is quickly resolved.

A staff team attended immediately and confirmed a blocked sewer was responsible for the issue. The blockage was cleared that day, and crews put containment measures in place to mitigate any issues downstream. The spill was also reported to the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) Spills Action Centre as soon as it was identified.

City staff and my office take these environmental issues seriously, and I will continue to follow up to ensure that proactive, preventative actions are taken wherever possible to prevent incidents like this from happening again.

Staff will continue to skim the water for debris and maintain the containment equipment until the water returns to its usual clarity. If you see a spill, always report it to 311 immediately."

Didn't mention it on my blog when checking out the East Don Trail on Sunday, but I can confirm the awful smell by Forks of the Don at that time. Wasn't aware about the dead fish part which is very unfortunate. :(
