Things are happening very fast today with the opposition suddenly advancing on the Assad government which reportedly has exhausted its troops and support, in part from the withdrawal of Russian support because of their redeployment to Ukranine.
Interesting times in the Middle East. No one really knows the end game for these rebels.

Assad is now reported to have fled the country on the last flight out and Damascus appears about to fall.

Another unintended consequence of Russia’s failed invasion of Ukraine and of Hamas’ attack on Israel. In the first we see Russia reducing its military support for Assad as it drains its lifeblood into the field of the Donbas. On the second we see Israel striking out at Hezbollah and Iran, causing significant reductions in aid to Assad forcing him to flee.

It would be nice for the Kurds to finally get an independent state out of all this after many decades of being screwed, but none of the countries affected will agree to that.
