Not to sound like a cold hearted bastard, I don't feel for him, he's well aware of how much his weight affects his health. We are all responsible for our own well being, I don't care what his excuse is, if you want to loose the weight, you can, you must, do it. After being on prednisone for many years, my weight had ballooned to 280lbs (I'm only 5'11"). After I was allowed to stop the meds I vowed to loose the weight, all of it. It was probably one of the most difficult things I've ever had to do. It was a lot of hard work and self restraint, but I did it. In one year I lost exactly 100lbs, that was more then 15 years ago, and I've kept it off. If I can do it, anyone can (I have little will power usually)!!! You can come up with a million excuses, but ultimately, it's up to the individual, no matter how busy your life is, you have to change your lifestyle, at first, it's difficult, but then, once you've adjusted to it, it's really not that hard.

Ford is just discouraged, and with his excessive weight, he's one hamburger away from a fatal heart attack. I despise the man politically, he's a total embarrassment to our city, but, as a fellow human being, I don't wish the man harm (just want him to go away!), I pray he looses the weight before its too late, he does have a family to look after, how selfish can the man be to show such contempt and disregard for his own health. He's probably the type that will wait to have a heart attack before doing anything about it, but from my medical experience, one who is that over weight, with so much stress in his life, seldom survives the first heart attack, just sad!
 
Mammoliti was out on the first day -- no surprise. Holyday has been increasingly critical of Ford. Minan-Wong came out strongly against Ford voting against his own budget this week. Now Del-Grande is out. All Ford has left is his brother and Nunziata.

Rob Ford is done politicaly. He's radioactive. If he gets to run for Mayor, I think he'll be doing it alone because even the Right is slowly backing up out of the room.

Agree, MM. The attacks from the right in a byelection will be painful for him.
 
I'm kind of with Del-Grande and Holyday here. I can't believe council caved to the fire department. Actually, I can believed it, but I have the same reaction of Del-Grande and Holyday.

Yes, that's true. You might well be correct. Hmm, and that's the category I'm in ... my valuation is up well over the average. Though at least this year when I compare it to my neighbours, and what it's sold for, it actually is consistent ... they must have fixed some of their methodologies ... though it's amazing what happens when you put the correct lot area and house size data into the database! :)

Oh dear, looks like I'll be in for a $50 increase on my $2,000 city tax bill instead of just $40 ... cry me a river.

I think it's safe to say that he won't be supporting Rob Ford's appointment to Mayor and at best remaining neutral in any election that Ford participates in. The same could be said for Denzil Minnan-Wong and no doubt a lot of the other soft supporters like Michael Thompson. Again, I think Ford is toast. Finito. Done politically.

Once he's no longer Mayor, everybody will turn their back to him and suddenly City Council will snap out of the bizarro world that it's been living in and Councillors who previously supported him will admit that Rob Ford lives in some sort of anti-reality that he dragged us into over the past couple of years.

Del Grande: I support the agenda, I don’t know if that means supporting the mayor. But I thought the other alternatives [in the election] were more of the same of the seven years that we already had.

Actually I think it's a game - he is basically trying to have his cake and eat it too - putting forth a budget that is for all practical purposes not significantly different from previous years - because that's the fiscal reality of the city, and then voting against it, knowing the vote wouldn't go anywhere, just to shore up his creds and create the "us" vs. "Socialist-them". The average Joe isn't going to follow that closely and might lap it all up like mana, but of course in doing so it make everyone else (DelGrande, etc) look like incompetent chopped liver who isn't hard core enough. Make no mistake folks, this is about 2014.

One of the more fun things about this Mayorship has been trying to divine how both the Mayor and his supporters think. I really have no idea.
 
Just to stir the pot a bit more.

One thing I've learned being a legal researcher over the years is to *never* assume the outcome of a case will be what you think (or hope) it is, especially regarding appeals.
 
The Supreme Court as its very purpose only hears cases of national importance. They would never hear Ford's appeal, even if it's technically possible for him to seek leave.
