They should have the 401 reopen early Sunday morning based on what they did for the QEW Dixie Rd bridge last year. It will be a zoo from closure to reopening.

It may not be much, but this bridge replacement is one step closer to the ultimate widening of the 401 from K/W to Toronto.

The Grand River project is going to wrap up too which will mean only one component is left for the western edge of this thread's scope- the missing flyovers to/from Highway 8. The Grand River project was a precursor to this so they could be fit in.

Would seem reasonable that it was completed fordt but its flyovers and new build is quite complex . Id like to hear the bypass had a firm start date, theyve "commited" to it many times in recent years with press conferences, but no shovels in the ground

I'm assuming the Highway 6 Morriston Bypass will be getting built before widening the 401 through that section?
Still have to rebuild a few bridges to support the 10 lanes and ramps first. This doesn't stop building west from R225/Tremaine in phases. It took close to 3 years to do 19km to R25 from the Credit River

Drove 401 on the weekend from Hwy 8 to 401 WB. Still have to go through 'the funhouse' due to lack of 8/401 connectors but the onramp at the 401 now becomes it's own lane, running all the way to Homer Watson and becomes a dedicated exit lane.

What's more is while there's another lane, there is a double wide shoulder to fit in another new lane whenever a direct ramp is built to bypass 'the funhouse'. I didn't know the bridge would be quite THIS wide- a lane more than I thought. I applaud the vision MTO had to fit in these ramps one day (still not under the highways program as a upcoming project).

For those who don't know, the stretch of Highway 8 between the freeway part and the 401 where you have to drive through a bunch of stoplights surrounded by big box barf is often called 'the funhouse'. This stretch- https://www.google.com/maps/dir/43....try=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI1MDgxMC4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw==

I've driven that many times - but I've never heard that term before. It doesn't Google either.

I think that was on hold when they added the bypass east of the former Sportsworld (Freeport Diversion), until they had a plan in place for the Highway 8 bypass around Preston and the extra Grand River crossing. Though given that plan died many years ago, I don't know why they just haven't gotten on with this.

Have they come out with a design yet for this bridge that will go over the 401 and onto Hwy 8 ? Would like to see where exactly that will be dropping down before sportsworld drive.
