Dubai Chocolate = 100% a fad i hope it collapses itself
Agreed. It reeks of quick fad.
Matcha = I think 100% Matcha is here to stay!
Also agreed. Think this has staying power for the short-term.
Gourmet Cookie = already in saturation and for crumble cookie to keep opening new shop will cannibalize it same store sale. Craig's Cookie was experiencing decline in quality and even losses at same store level!
I feel like gourmet donut places have bled into gourmet cookie places. Outside of being American and extremely overpriced I think Crumbl is pretty good.
Thai food = global culinary diplomacy fine!
Thai food will always be amazing, but I feel like it's become a bit saturated. Maybe i'm more annoyed at Koh Lipe's busy-ness and seeming decline since they achieved Michelin status. Maybe i'm overthinking it.
however Toronto's Thai food is mainly southern thai but the city hasn't try many Northern Thai ex. 555 Boat Noodle!
I've heard similar about Toronto's Vietnamese food (being north versus south) but i'm unsure of which restaurants fall under which, aside from Pho Hung on Spadina which proudly has South Vietnamese/Republic of Vietnam items on its walls...

I feel like Mexican tacos have become a big fad in recent years and they've proliferated quite a bit, but the only Mexican places i'd really recommend are out by Rogers or Jane.

I did have the pleasure of trying both omakase and conveyor belt sushi on my recent trip to Japan and far preferred conveyor, mostly because omakase felt like it had standards and customs to follow and it felt too stressful to keep up. Conveyor was far more my speed and far more interesting, IMO.

That just sounds gross and annoying. MEH!
My only experience is the Dubai chocolate mini-donuts from this place, and it was actually really good, even though I don't particularly love chocolate or pistachio (I only chose that flavour for my wife. The sacrifices I make...).

Walked past this today, going in at the ground floor of Courtyard Mariott at the corner of Yonge and Wood. Looks like it's a Japanese bakery/cafe called Daon. Although I don't see any info online about them. Based off the interior and the fact they were cleaning windows inside and out looks like they're almost ready to open.

About time a cafe go back into that corner - it's such a shame when the Second Cup disappeared given how packed it was all the time.

Saw this near King Street West and Spadina Avenue.

Across from the former LCBO building

"It was announced this morning that New York–based CookUnity—a weekly subscription service for meals created by top chefs—will shake up the food delivery scene in Ontario starting June 1. Instead of the usual burgers and fries, boring grain bowls, or overcooked salmon, foodies unable or unwilling to cook can now simply heat and eat single servings of grilled chicken with pine nut–chili salsa created by Patrick Kriss (Alo), smoky butter chicken with basmati rice by Hemant Bhagwani (Bar Goa) and Jamaican pepper shrimp by Dadrian Coke (Chubby’s Jamaican). It’s like Covid-times takeout, minus the pandemic!

The starting lineup—which lists more than 100 dishes—also includes made-to-order meals from the minds of acclaimed international chefs like Chopped champion Einat Admony (cod in a spicy Moroccan tomato sauce) and James Beard Award winner Jose Garces (Mission-style carnitas)."

"Last fall, David Schwartz opened Linny’s, a deli-inspired, white-tablecloth steakhouse on Ossington. Now, with its new neighbour, Linny’s Luncheonette, it’s clear that Schwartz has a master plan: to bring the comforting flavours of proper deli food—the kind he grew up eating—to the masses."

Art's Opinion: this is right in my alley so i will give it a shout!

That smoked fish sandwich looks delectable. And the pastrami too, of course. I'll give it a try some day when I can pass through Ossington at lunch time.
