Honestly, second only to the bottom right iteration where it matches the height of the JW Marriott, the current iteration might be the best of all of them.
Agreed. JW stood true to it's original rendering. So did Rogers and the Edmonton tower. Stantec gained about 30m in height versus it's original render but the design totally changed.
This one, while much shorter than the original one you're referring to is the best one I've seen throughout this whole BG Tower fiasco.
I'm still partial to the original tower design versus... this.
Yes, I love the original tower's height and design. However, I read in the other thread that the podium can only support a maximum height of 145m. That was a piece of news that was revealed much later. That's why there were a few proposals in the 140ish metre range, a 56m proposal and now this one at 122m. I do look forward to this one though.
A First Nations company from Ontario (Lake Huron) is investing in this. They were chosen from multiple offers. Wishing them nothing but success with this project. I appreciate their involvement and in them having confidence to invest in our city.

A podium can always be beefed up. CF did that with the old Eatons box in downtown Vancouver when it re-tenanted with Nordstrom and added office floors above. Little-known fact: CF over-beefed the columns in the parkade below to accommodate additional structural loads, i.e. additional levels in the future.

Not sure if it's been stated here already but Synergy Projects is on the Connect Centre Tower project.
Look forward to this project. I read that since the podium and underground parking is done, it'll shave off a year of construction. I hope the building will have some width similar to JW and not an Encore/Ultima slender and stay true to the renders shown. Skyscraper Page stated a completition date of 2031 but I think that's an error. I'm thinking in the next two years. Integro Investments is mentioned as being involved if that helps anyone.

Soil conditions wouldn't allow anything over 145m is what was reported earlier in the old thread. So, I was wrong stating that it was the podium itself.

Safe to say we've got our first high rise construction of 2026 starting pretty soon here.

This article is a few months old and it is probably unlikely anything happens that impacts this project, but an interesting read:

WUT (Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory) is one of 21 First Nations along with members of the Sudbury 817 General List that shared in a $10 billion dollar settlement negotiated after the courts found the Crown breached the 1850 treaty.

The money is compensation for unpaid annuities tied to wealth generation over the past 150 years when annuities were frozen at four dollars per person.

In the application, Eshkawkogan says the settlement amount given to WUT, the beneficiary with the largest population, was $1.312 billion dollars.

Chief and council decided to distribute 60 per cent of the settlement to individuals based on age and reserved 40 per cent for the community’s long-term benefit.

A number of elders have spearheaded a petition to increase the per capita distribution.

They plan to rally today at one of the main intersections in the community, calling for more transparency of how the money has been managed.

The court document raises questions about the fairness of chief and council’s handling of the settlement money.

The document claims chief and council used $85 million dollars of the settlement as collateral for the purchase and development of a commercial and residential complex in Edmonton without due consultation.

Another issue raised in the court document is related to how chief and council processed a $10,000 holiday gift for community members from interest on the settlement funds.

The document also questions the decision to put the remaining settlement money into a 100 year trust agreement for future generations.

Eshkawgogan is calling for a judge to order chief and council to ensure regular reporting to the WUT members on the Connect Centre purchase and to declare WUT members have the right to participate in a referendum in relation to decision-making about RHT settlement funds. He is also calling on the court to set aside the decision to establish a long-term trust and order the council to hold a community ratification vote on the long-term trust agreement.

A number of allegations are made in the document, including that, as elected officials, chief and council did not follow the laws, policies and traditions of the First Nation in making their decisions.

Cat Kindschi is an off-reserve member of WUT but says her mother and aunt are involved in today’s protest.

She says she personally has a lot of suspicion and unanswered questions about the management of the money.

“How much was given to the people?” she said. “How much was kept from the people? What's the interest on that money that they're paying and why?"

She also found the purchase of the building in downtown Edmonton a strange move for chief and council to make.

“That’s just bizarre,” she said. “None of us are ever going to see this building.”

....

In a response posted to Facebook, chief and council say they were acting in the best interests of members and were guided by professional and legal advice. They said all decisions were made lawfully and transparently.

I am very glad that WUT has invested in this and are full steam ahead with it, but if I were a band member, I'd probably be wondering WTF as well. Considering they need to still go through with the construction of the tower to fully realize their investment, it seems to come with a lot more risk than simply purchasing a diversified portfolio of income producing properties if the goal is long-term financial sustainability for their future.
