Even with 100% tariffs in Canada and the US, I could see a market for an EV equipped like this.
The best plan would be to invite China to open a car factory in Canada. We have plenty of other foreign car plants here, including Honda and Toyota from Japan, Ford and GM from the US, Stelantis from the Netherlands, and Germany’s Volkswagen about to open its EV battery plant in St. Thomas, ON. We also have Sweden’s Volvo Group (Nova Bus, Prevost) making buses, RVs and trucks in Quebec. If we’re going to invite the Japanese, Americans, Dutch, Germans and Swedes to make complete vehicle or components here, why not China?

It's a bit of a slippery slope. Is Rolling Coal then terrorism?
People are citing various definitions or examples, but the one that is the most important is the definition of 'domestic terrorism' contained in the federal statute 18 US Code s/s 2331:

(5)the term “domestic terrorism” means activities that—

(A) involve acts dangerous to human life that are a violation of the criminal laws of the United States or of any State;

(B) appear to be intended—

(i) to intimidate or coerce a civilian population;
(ii) to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or
(iii )to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination, or kidnapping; and

(C) occur primarily within the territorial jurisdiction of the United States;

Meet those conditions and the FBI/DOJ would have grounds to invoke a federal mandate. Even if invokes, in any prosecution, the above conditions would have to be proven.

It's more about how the nuances are interpreted. Is burning Teslas in the middle of the night when no-one is working dangerous to human life? Not really. But would that stop, let's say, Aileen Cannon from accepting a slippery slope argument about how the fire might've spread to home a half kilometre away, or endangered the lives of firefighters?

I wouldn't go that easy - I would make sure they have to jump through similar hoops foreign firms operating in China.

We're in a needless tariff battle with China right now, when we're getting kicked in a tariff war with the USA. We can't win a two front war, and I suggest we do anything reasonable that China wants to open up their market to Canadian goods.

The problem is once you open that door, you won't be able to close it - and EV isn't an agnostic product like clothing; it has security implications.

Tesla gives our data to Washington. BYD gives it to Beijing. Is one worse than the other?
Of course - China is far worse, and decoupling from them should be a priority across the West. They've been an adversary/enemy for decades and should be treated as such, openly. The Trump administration is most likely just a blip in contrast.

U.S. CBP agents apparently consider any criticism of Trump a form of terrorism. 🤷‍♂️

French newspaper is reporting U.S. border agents denied a French scientist entry after finding messages on his phone criticizing Trump.
The U.S. is quickly becoming North Korea.

Do Americans really want to play this game? Don't they like their people being able to travel?

Seriously.

I would not be surprised if American Citizens had full visa requirements placed upon them in foreign countries. Not ETA, ESTA or Visa on arrival I am talking Visa in advance of travel.

I can already imagine Trump freaking out over it.

Americans aren’t big on travel. Just 48% have a passport

That may be because of the onerous requirements to get one. Unlike here where you can go to a passport office in almost every city, some places in the US are far from a passport office.

That usually means mailing in the paperwork and US paperwork is anything but simple.
