Last I checked, public intoxication, drug use and possession, obstruction, roadside begging/soliciting, littering, graffiti, vandalism, and encampments are against the law. But you’d never know it in Toronto.
I'm sure you have data to back that up? What were the number of fines for public intoxication last year vs 2000?

Agree on violent crime. How's property crime doing? Not getting killed is kinda the bare minimum most people expect from a place.
Oh yeah, and Canada’s backwards injustice system sooner prosecutes people for defending themselves against violent criminals before it would even think of prosecuting the actual criminals. The US, albeit having a higher crime rate, at least doesn't have that.

There are many examples (i.e. the guy who fired his gun into the air to scare off car thieves), but I don't feel like digging for each one right now.

There's also the fact the police literally advised people to leave their car keys in plain sight, whereas somewhere like Texas no one would have to think twice about protecting themselves & their house by force if they have to.

I asked nicely for you stop.

You're doing nothing but full-on trolling at this point This is the thread for current Federal, political policy/news.

You arbitrarily found an article by a partisan Conservative (she sought a nomination to run for the party) which is 2.5 years old, has nothing substantive in it (a handful of anecdotes), nothing to do with the here or now or the current government.

This is 100% off-topic goading of other members, future posts of this nature by you will be reported.

I don't think it does at all, and I'm profoundly insulted at the suggestion.
I have a lot of respect for you, just FYI, but...
I'm clear on my stands on every issue. I'm unambiguously non-partisan
...I don't believe it's patently possible to be truly non-partisan. We all have bias'.

I think referring to the former PM as just his first name feeds into CPC talking points and messaging in how they tried to belittle him by referring to him only by his first name for a decade, along with trying to feminize any of his accomplishments as if that were a negative. It's succumbing to their woeful right-wing messaging. Please keep that in mind when you're trying to be non-partisan, even if replying to someone else using that in that way. Why mimic them as a non-partisan?
I know, and I certainly don't fault them for being so protective of their culture & national security, I just really wish the west did the same with theirs
What culture do you think we should protect here in Canada? Indigenous culture? Hangover colonialist culture from the Brits or French? Neo-Immigrant mosaic culture?
And if I were to move to Japan, I would of course make an effort to learn the language and adapt to the culture.
Of course, but you should know that they would still perpetually view you as a foreigner regardless of your ability and it will have a negative impact on your quality of life if you view community as important to you. There's the whole joke where foreigners get degrees learning Japanese only to end up working at convenience stores, and sometimes they're lucky and get promoted up to hotel front desks...
I don't know about housing cost (though I doubt they're dealing with the same housing crisis we are), but I just wanna live in a place without the constant fear of violent crime let alone national security threats.
You know, one of the safest places i've ever felt travelling to was China, and my partner said she felt safest when travelling in Saudi Arabia. Two cents!
I see the news, we all do.
The news is inflammatory and not at all reflective of reality, especially when reporting violent crime. They get more views if they show these over nothing of any substance happening.
Does anyone else feel that the mood on this forum trends towards raging, venting and gloom. Mihairokov, when you got all that soap boxing off your chest, did you feel any better? Better, not worse is how you want to feel when you close down the page, IMO.
Does it make you feel better when you find the time each and every day to find a second to lament the homeless and people seemingly below you on the streets? I don't see how it's at all constructive.

So no source other than a CPC candidate in a right wing rag, and the desire to fire guns indiscriminately in public as "self defense".

Try replying to posts instead of hiding your replies in your previous lies.

How about the one that values freedom & human rights, that must be protected from regimes that do not, and should aim to protect those genuinely fleeing from such regimes while ensuring those who want to impose the same regimes on us would stay as far away from us as possible?

You know, one of the safest places i've ever felt travelling to was China
Not surprising.

Of course, but you should know that they would still perpetually view you as a foreigner regardless of your ability
And again, I can't really fault them. My sentiment was more about how their own population would probably feel when looking at the West right now, not in the sense that I'd be ready to pack my bags and move there tomorrow.

Way to twist the context of what actually happened. "Previous lies" something-something.

Try replying to posts instead of hiding your replies in your previous lies.
I just did. Happy?

While you're at it, try consolidating your replies in a single post instead of making 2 separate posts in a row to reply to 2 different people (the opposite of editing new replies into existing ones, neither of which is better or worse than the other).

And before you try to accuse me of off-topic trolling again: Mihairokov asked me a question, I answered.

Ascribing an "us" and "them" mentality to human rights and freedoms ignores the point.

So, do you not want to answer the question then? Who is "us"?
Not surprising.
Weird what happens when they have security in subway stations, staff on platforms, staff on subway trains...
Gaaa. You sounds like Trudeau II:

Not comparing our selves to others and rending our garments over past sins would be a good start.
I wonder if Donna & Don changed their tune after the Liberals' handling of COVID.

Obviously the Trudeau government did a lot of virture signalling but I hope people here are open to the question of "whose culture" when someone stands up and says we need to defend "our culture". What is Canadian culture and what are we looking to defend? Many different people would have many different answers, and that's kind of the point in the end, but it's still a question worth asking when hyper homogenous countries are viewed with envy on this topic.

So, again, what Canadian culture are you looking to defend?
If it wasn't obvious too: the one that supports LGBT rights, and otherwise aligns with core Western values.

The Japanese population. I thought that was obvious.
It was. I was pointing out your choice of words being no different than mine.

I asked nicely for you stop.

Answer me this: how come you never asked utakata to stop when they're the one who started with the ad hominem personal attacks, and constantly kept trying to engage me and throw in the last word behind my back (thinking they're slick) even after I tried to ignore them and move on? At best you acknowledged that "the other person didn't" stop, but perhaps they might've taken the hint if you told them directly.

Lol. Out of curiosity I just clicked unignore and it's amazing how the vibe changes once you see the posts from 81-717, Mihairokov, zang and picard102. I suggest you guys need a separate thread to hash out whatever OT soup you're making.

Anyway, ignore reactivated, sanity regained. Let's focus on Mark Carney's government.
