As continued from Phabulous Philly (Part I)...

Behind the Philadelphia Museum of Art on the Schuylkill River sits the Fairmount Water Works.

The Fairmount Water Works was the first municipal waterworks in the United States. Today it houses a waterworks "interpretive center" and an expensive restaurant.

We then took a quick drive through Fairmount Park which hugs the Schuylkill River.

We also passed Philly's famous "Boat House Row" which also sits on the Schuylkill River.

A distant, but zoomed-in shot of the top of the Comcast Center from roughly the area of The Philadelphia Museum of Art.

In the Fairmount section of Philly sits the historic Eastern State penitentiary.

The Eastern State Penitentiary is considered one of America's most historic former prisons and was open from 1829-1971.

The prison is maintained in a state of "managed decay" which is absolutely perfect for taking pictures.

Al Capone's cell. Surprisingly, they allowed him to bring most of his own furniture. He lived here for about a year.

One of the only parts of the complex to be rehabilitated is the prison's original Jewish synagogue.

The prison is also home to a variety of permanent and temporary art exhibits, including this one titled "Ghost Cats."

Philadelphia Part 2 - Good pics again!

I like the way the buildings are lit with small white lights at night...

Eastern State is arguably worth a trip to the area alone. It's really quite something and as good as I think my pictures of it are, they hardly begin to do it justice.
