Three decades after the Berlin Wall fell, the crossing is a mess of souvenir shops and fast-food restaurants – and time is running out to change things
This is one of those things that really needs to be kept how it is. As much as housing is needed this is a historical landmark worth preserving. It is right up there with the Berlin Wall. Just because it is not used now, Checkpoint Charlie was a focal point in 20th century history.

Tesla factory outside Berlin to cost €4 billion
New details have emerged about Tesla's plans for a brand-new "Gigafactory" outside of Berlin. The massive project is set to bring thousands of jobs to the area, with construction slated to begin in early 2020.
Tesla plans on investing up to €4 billion ($4.4 billion) in a new electric car factory near Berlin, German media reported on Sunday.
The new "Gigafactory" is due to be built in the town of Grünheide outside the German capital and will be Tesla's first European car and battery plant.
The Brandenburg state government told news agency DPA that at least 3,000 people could be employed at the factory, and that the number of employees could rise up to 8,000 after an expansion.
Construction on the massive project is slated to begin in the first three months of 2020, with the plant expected to be up and running by the end of 2021.

I strongly dislike Babis. He's a former StB informer (making him a despicable piece of shit) and amassed his business empire after the fall of the evil communist regime by being on the inside during privatisation. He was able to secure most of it with pennies on the dollar, robbing the Czechoslovak state of rightful compensation.
He's a joke. Can't believe he's still clinging to power....with the support of the Communist scum, no less. Old friends, of course.
President Zeman is a joke as well. Barely won re-election against a much more reasonable opponent. The PM and President are an embarrassment to the most prosperous former communist colony in Europe.
