You haven't read the TTC website I see.

And nice job bringing up Ford after realizing Giambrone can't be defended. And I agree -- they're both unqualified to ever be mayor.

If the SRT was a subway, our maps wouldn't be clarified as a saying "SUBWAY/SRT ROUTE MAP" or whatever it is they say.

As I said, nfitz is a master obfuscator. He's always LYING and DECEIVING us.

The TTC accomplished quite a bit, although Giambrone was not fully responsible for this. In fact most of the really good ideas (revamped website, timed transfers, bus racks) have been old hat to systems in other cities.

The TTC's biggest problems, to me, remain the same as they were before Giambrone or even Miller took office: surly customer service, high labour costs and an unwillingness to explore other ways of outsourcing, abysmal line management practices on surface routes (the 501 being the most infamous failure), poor regional integration, and throwing up obstacles to new payment systems.

It is entirely true that most of the TTCs accomplishments under Giambrone have been basic features at other agencies; but they are also a direct result of him being involved. Other chairs (Moscoe, for example) were actively impeding things like a website revamp, vehicle location program, etc. as an inappropriate use of money when compared to an extra bus or two on the street.

Giambrone brought a different set of priorities, for better or worse, which brought up the technical level at the TTC. There are still project managers in the TTC who believe the internet (and most modern communications technologies) are trends which will disappear soon. Giambrone had enough will and power to counteract this where Moscoe encouraged that line of thought.

Until a good chunk of senior staff at TTC retire, having a more technically inclined (as a person who uses the services) as chair is probably a good influence.

Giambrone's biggest advantage when taking over as TTC chair in 2006 was timing: Harris was long gone and McGuinty had been established for three years. It's easy to brag about having done more when one has more resources at one's disposal.

The most important thing he did by far was reverse the 1996 service reductions. Everything else pales in comparison.

The current chair of the TTC actually uses the TTC. I hope that the new commissioners and new chair of the TTC will all be regular TTC users, and it is a prerequisite. Don't want commissioners who drive themselves or are chauffeured to the TTC and city meetings.

Funny. Nobody in Scarborough refers to the SRT as the subway.
Indeed ... I was making a sarcastic comment about TTC's signage. Sadly the sense of humour of some here is poor.

I'm surprised one would say that given that Giambrone has done such an irrefutably stellar job as Chair.

If you disagree with me though - tell me this, name the previous Chair who accomplished more?

Right! Just like how can anyone celebrate the Sheppard subway being neutered and doomed to being incomplete far into the future due to the Sheppard LRT, which will also add another transfer at Meadowvale (or wherever)?

Yea in 2050 the LRT will become aged and there'll be debates as to whether to upgrade it to Sheppard Subway or replace the cars on the street with something else and stuff.

The price of oil will be so high by then, that people will be clamoring for more heavy rail, light rail, streetcars, and trolley buses not just in the 416, but also in the 905, where there is presently none. At least, we are doing something instead of nothing. And something is better than than nothing.

Name the previous Chairs and their time in office.

Frederick L. Hubbard was also the General Manager of the privately owned Toronto Railway Company, before the TTC came into existence. Frederick Hubbard was also the son of William Peyton Hubbard. (W. P. Hubbard was Toronto's first black alderman when he was elected in 1894.) Frederick continued on as a TTC Commissioner.
