The coyotes were shot euthanized.

Longer story from the Star with more details:

as someone who lived in the area. this whole thing was blown way out of proportion, mostly by this community group who wanted them just straight up gone no matter what.

very much contrasts to the safe injection sites and shelters. "I dont care the risks or the benefits i just dont like them get rid of them asap"

oof, feel a bit bad for him and not at all envious of the next person to get the role. There's obviously so much dysfunction that runs deep. Shawn Micallef's take seems apt:
"This poor guy inherited a shit sandwich. Years of institutional mismanagement …. Would take a general to change that culture. But maybe they’ll hire one."

I'm not one to cheer lead someone's employment ending.

However. I clearly expressed when he was hired that I did not feel he was the right person for the job.

I also noted that the process for hiring someone last time was, to my eye, quite flawed.

They didn't seek a change-maker, they hired a long time staffer whose track record was not one of boldness, change or achievement.

There's obviously so much dysfunction that runs deep

Yes, there is.

There are good people in the department, but as many or more that have failed upwards, rather than deserving a given job.

So many are simply out of their depth.

But beyond that, the department has a culture of under-achievement and one of butt-covering.

"This poor guy inherited a shit sandwich. Years of institutional mismanagement ….

Yeah......but he wasn't new...........the problems were there before his promotion and he was there with them.

Would take a general to change that culture. But maybe they’ll hire one."

I would love that.......that is what's needed.............but to achieve that, the hiring will have to be managed directly by the Mayor's Office / City Manager........steer clear of any inside process.

Something to watch or maybe it's nothing... in the last day people across different sites are posting about getting a phone call polling about John Tory running for Mayor again.
It seems like it's happening, and so we really need to hope for a vote-split on the right between Tory, Mendicino, and Bradford, and that there is less of a vote-split on the "left", to prevent Tory from becoming mayor again or to prevent Mendicino from becoming mayor.

I think Chow is going to have to really start drilling it into people what she's actually done as Mayor. I don't think most people can sense a change in their daily lives, and things like Sankofa Square, her flip flopping on Palestine, and her support of RTO will poll well.

Without delving into each of those issues, it is important to remember that she might only need 35% of the vote to win, especially with what appears to be a crowded centre-right slate.

Agreed, but note the timing on this year's signature investments:

Outdoor Pools Hours - kicks in mid-June/July

Library Hours - Starts July by simply not having traditional summer Sunday shutdowns, expanded year-round Sunday service starts in September.

TTC Service Increase. Has begun.....but not yet felt...............big increases are budgeted for September, October and November.

Interestingly enough this just popped up.

The Leger survey asked Toronto residents about their mayor as part of a broader poll on Ontario politics. Respondents were almost evenly split over Chow’s handling of municipal affairs as she nears the end of her second year at the helm of Canada’s largest city. Slightly less than half (48 per cent) of people strongly or somewhat approved of her performance, while 42 per cent said they strongly or somewhat disapproved. Another 10 per cent said they were not sure.

NationalPost and PostMedia can go pound sand. If Chow is getting 48% support on election day she's more than just cruising to victory

Clearly, the headline is skewed. If you remove the neutral/abstain category, you'd be reading this as 'Chow leads 'other' 48 to 42.

That said, the number is 48 with no alternative put forward. Right/left or centre. So there is no division of the progressive vote, nor the would-be opposition.

A six point lead, when there is no opposition candidate isn't great. Particularly important to remember is that angry voters generally have higher turnout.

I will maintain, however, that a poll this fall, likely in late November, 11 months out from an election will be more telling.

All other things being equal, we will have the Crosstown and Finch opened, the new mouth-of-the-Don park system, construction on Lakeshore Blvd E will be wrapped, with new public realm and assorted service improvements will be reality.

At that point, if the Mayor isn't polling above 50..... I think you'll see strong interest in running against her.

I can see the the "angry" vote coming out in full force from pro-israel lobby even if she does improve in the polls.
My community facebook group is constantly filled with angry comments about Chow and her not deporting protestors, and Mendicino and Bradford are ready to jump on it.

Toronto mayors have exactly zero say on immigration/deportation. Its not a Toronto Police matter.
