I was thinking today, about how I miss the presence of @AlvinofDiaspar .
I miss many who have chosen (or have had no choice ) to depart UT.
Alvin and I had an up and down experience w/each other.....here on UT.
Long before I was a regular poster, let alone a major contributor to UT, I found his posts interesting, often audacious, sometimes fun to read, quite often insightful.
As I became a more substantial presence on UT we would sometimes cross swords, but mostly I thought it was civil and respectful.
Alvin certainly could be extreme and an absolutist at times. I won't deny that was a source of friction periodically; but I still really enjoyed our exchanges most of the time.
He was/is smart, thoughtful and well considered on a wide range of subjects.
I made this post with him in mind, though there are others whose loss I feel.
I waited to see if those who were closer to him would have something to say; but it seems not.
Its not my place to discuss the reasons for his departure, except to say, I wish he'd reconsider as his contributions here were valuable and appreciated.
For those that were/are closer to him, I would encourage you to reach out (to him) and ask him to reconsider his departure.
I would also encourage the rest of you to express more often when you appreciate someone's posts, not just by hitting 'like' though that's good. But by letting someone know, publicly or privately when you appreciate what they add.
From time to time, any of us may wonder if efforts made are valued. Let people know, its a bit late after they've left.
I will mention some others in due course. But I wanted to begin with someone who is still by volume the 2nd leading poster in :UT history.
