There is a long tradition of civic cheapness in this city. Crappy looking streetscapes and public spaces (which belong to us) exist as markers of how well out tax dollars are not being spent.

Lisa doesn't think. She whinges. She complains. She sets up straw men. But I've never read a thing where she made a positive contribution to a discussion. Anyone remember her whingeing about the loading dock at Four Seasons -- a spectacular building, she picks on the loading dock. She calls some poor woman who's trying to help people with potholes and harangues her.

Greatest waste in the G&M, IMHO.

... and yet she's right! Thank god for her 'whingeing'. I guess it just seems like 'whingeing' in comparison to the deafening apathy that typifies the complete indifference of most Torontonians.

BS. You can advocate without complaining. You can suggest alternatives. You can even agitate for change. She does none of the above. Rochon is as insane in her own way as Sue-Ann Levy -- another 'journalist' who carps and ambushes.

Absolutely true, however I always wonder if people appreciate how crap the streetscapes and cheapness of the city was 20 years ago? There is progress being made. When I say this I'm not making excuses or saying we don't need to get better. Having a bit more real experience with this kind of thing year by year it truly does shock you if you stand back and look at it for a second how all the different city departments , and laws, and bylaws, and interest groups, unions, construction companies, utilities, the lawyers, the insurance industry, local businesses, residents groups, etc. all work against each other to make sure good things don't happen to improve the city.

...'um so like writing a newspaper article isn't 'agitating'? The alternative she offers is to do better, like almost everywhere else does. Enough with the excuses already!
