I'm confused - what am I supposed to be doing??

Taking photos when you pass construction/renovation sites, not just when in Cozy Cafes or trying to impress @Natika33 with your Masters of the Universe merch!

I’ve morphed into a cafe slut - I often take construction site pics but if I don’t post them that very same day it seems someone else scoops me, even on less covered projects, and then I’m just frustrated 😂

Speaking of which, it’s a travesty that I don’t have any Masters Of The Universe meggings yet - that must be remedied immediately.

Any news on the relocation of the safe injection site? Is it still in use?

I walked by a couple of days ago and it was immediately clear that the corner had changed. The usual congregation of troubled folks in front of the Tim Hortons was down to one or two, nobody in front of 277 Victoria as was usual. I approached and saw the sign stating that it would close on April 4th.

I support safe injection sites but it also must be acknowledged that they come with challenges for the communities they're in and their locations must be chosen with compatibility in mind. On a school campus is not it, near Toronto's busiest tourist area is also not a good match. The safe injection clinic has acted as a black hole on that side of the square, robbing it of activity, that one would otherwise get at such a busy crossroads.

Between 277 Victoria and the old City TV building, TMU is going to hug the square and I believe revitalize the area with students who will patronize the restaurants at the Tenor and those across the square.

Good to know, thanks for the info.

I'm also a supporter of safe injection sites in theory, but I've always felt that next door from a university campus was an extraordinary poor location for it, and that was before I actually walked the corner and saw people outside flailing around and screaming as though possessed. I am relieved that this intersection will no longer be a no-go zone.

I'm just now realizing that this was the city's concept, not TMU's after trying to find the building in the city's applications portal and scouring the web and coming up empty handed. I found it very strange for a project with a date to take possession set years in advance. You'd think they would have used this time to have architectural plans completed, plans approved and even heavy equipment rolling on to the site on day 1.

So TMU is just going to move into the existing building? What a wasted opportunity at such a visible corner. This deserves an effort like their Snøhetta Student Learning Centre as a front door into the campus. I believe TMU is just leasing the City TV building but a combined site with a bridge over Dundas could create something spectacular as a gateway into Toronto Metropolitan University.

*Pardon the terrible Photoshop, just want to give an idea of my thinking. Both buildings should be demolished and built as one.

Thinking even on on a larger scale, this site could easily support a much taller tower if TMU partnered with a developer to build student housing + condos + hotel with the Lincoln Alexander School of Law in the base. Hopefully this is a temporary move while they figure out its future. What's happening with the Hakim Optical site then, if they're not building anything? Nothing found on Toronto.ca for that site either.
