Definitely the type of project that would be very cool to see the behind-the-scenes costs, design choices, processes etc. Could give hope to the countless forgettable buildings out there from this era that there's actually hope to rejuvenate them and we don't have to just wait until we tear it down to try something else.

Someone made a great map to show school utilization rates for CBE:

https://yyc-wander.ca/Civic_Social_Analytics/School_Capacity_Cbe

Looking just at elementaries there doesn't seem to be much correlation between infill intensity and overflowing schools, but a lot more red on the outskirts. Which doesn't surprise me at all. Of course this is all cyclical and fairly high level snapshot

It does show Connaught School at 137%, with pretty much every other school in the inner donut (16th-Crow-Glenmore-Deerfoot) below capacity. Richmond School (Killarney/Marda Loop) would be another one at 109%, but it's pretty small and Sunalta is the only other regular CBE school within 2kms (though there are tons of non CBE schools nearby)

The areas primed for the next wave of infill have lots of capacity

Still quite a bit of capacity for inner city schools, but quite a bit of change over 10 years in that north central area. We'll see if it's the same over the next 10. It could be a case of all those inner city schools being over capacity. I guess we'll cross that bridge if it happens.

Manning is over capacity right now, but with the west Calgary catholic high being built a lot of students will shift to there (a significant portion of catholic board students in the area switch to CBE for high school because of how far St. Mary's is); and Central Memorial also has some extra capacity. I don't see them needing to build a new inner west high school for quite a while (although the old manning site would have been great for a school)

Still can be, just integrate it into the development.

Its basically a completely new school in a new catchment area it just kept the name and is on 17th.
It's essentially the same catchment area; at most some of the eastern edge of the old catchment might have been shaved off to Central/Western.

It is a little interesting in hindsight that the old Ernest Manning served the most affluent large area of the city, but was not a very well regarded school and a lot of kids went to Western or Central instead. Presumably that's no longer true considering it's at 125% enrolment

Not really it serves the new suburbs west of Sarcee mainly, with none of the original communities east of Sarcee. All of the inner west suburbs have been taken over by memorial/western for regular programs.

I wonder if the 3 south central high schools; Wise wood, Beaverbrook, EP Scarlett would have faced the same fate if they didn't pull students from evergreen and the communities over the east of the bow inside of the ring road.
