The 5 star hotel are a product of the luxury condo market. They would not exist otherwise. The name brand is a selling feature and the high end amenities can be shared. Something shady about the dozens of chain "inns" popping up all over the GTA or at least I hope so. Investors parking cash is boring.

Yeah, but all four put together are still less than 1000 rooms which is peanuts for a city the size of Toronto...truthfully i believe that we can easily.handle another 1000 rooms of the 5 star category.

This was the operative response. This boom has been as much about the condos in these projects as the hotel component. Even if the city was getting overbuilt, each chain sees Toronto as just one city in its overall portfolio and given the increasing profile of Toronto they cannot afford to not have a presence. While $300 may sound like a lot, many travellers would say but that's only $100 more than the Delta - so why not have an experience?
