MacLeod is the most American of our stroads. For those of you that have seen those jokes on social media about returning from Europe and being depressed about coming back to our North American Power Centres and Strip Malls, I always think of Macleod as this place for us.

It's immediately seeing the sheer volume of pickup trucks on Airport Trail/Deerfoot that does it for me.

Coming home from Europe (or visits to my in-laws in NY), I always basically have two reactions.
1) It sure is quiet and spacious here.
2) Thank jeebus for the dry air.

On one hand, it's a bit of a letdown coming home from a more vibrant and culturally-rich destination... but on the other, life just feels more comfortable here. Coming back to Calgary is like taking off your designer suit and putting on your worn-in pair of jeans (or for our Edmonton readers, your stained-in pair of sweatpants).

Whenever I come home from being out east (Maritimes) the pickup trucks are always the first thing I notice. The sheer volume is insane.
