As the saying goes, they can do it the easy way or the hard way. It seems to be heading towards the latter, but I wouldn't be surprised if the PM announces a decision a day or two before that meeting.

I think Trudeau did the right thing. He's had his time in office.

Doesn't really matter imo. They'll be in office for 2 months, tops pre-election.

Who knows, maybe they completely turn around public sentiment.

I feel we have become too bogged down, focused so much on the past and the present, elections also need to be about the future.

It will be interesting to see who decides to run and the effect it has on public sentiment. There is a dark horse candidate I am paying some attention to (not Carney) who keeps popping up who could surprise everyone if they decide to run and could really shake things up.

LeBlanc? I assume you don't mean Freeland.

Be interesting to see the narrative now. They have to shift to Blame the liberals in General. But the liberals need to message that its not Justins party now. The Media will still give PP a lot of leeway.

At least we hope. Singh was pretty blunt today that with or without Trudeau, the NDP will no longer supply confidence to the Liberals... but what if Singh steps down as party leader as well?

Singh's NDP likely isn't winning any more seats federally and need a leadership change of their own after propping up (and lying about no longer supporting back in September) the Liberals through some absolutely egregious governing. If Singh steps down, both Libs and NDP can run leadership conventions, which can help keep the headlines about the ensuing mudslinging down for both parties, and the emerging NDP leader can continue to supply confidence to the Liberals until the election in the fall under the pretense of it's a brand new Liberal Party and direction, need strong stable governance against Trump, etc. Both parties then have much more time to retool and rebrand for a fall election. The NDP also get to keep their existing leverage to push policy.

And if we're all to believe in this BS about Singh only caring about his pension--then he's guaranteed to make it to the fall this way as well as he can remain an MP.

The end result is likely still a blowout Conversative majority, but likely not as bad as if the election goes in May as predicted.

Does blame really need to shift? Is the general public actually of the belief that Trudeau was the brains of the operation?

He may have wound up being an ineffective cat herder in the end, but it's a hard sell to pin all the policy blame on him...

Not that I expect much policy change from a different party either. Doesn't matter what color the cape is when the Laurentian matador stays the same.

What is really needed is term limits for a PM. Or, at the very least some sort of recall mechanism within the party, or outside. This guy has left Canada holding the bag while Trump is about to take power in the US. JT should have thought about the country, and not his "feminist" legacy. This should have all have been settled before Jan 20th. The polls were not in his favour for months, the polls were not in the LPC favour for months. Only somebody who is too stupid, too dumb, who has an enormous ego, power hungry, or %100 surrounded by "yes men" could not have read the room. A good leader knows when it's time to go, and you JT sir were not a good leader.
This is now your legacy, well done. Probably just as unpopular as PET.

Singh single handedly propped up this circus for far too long. He is JT the second. He should be kicked out of office. Oh wait 2 months so he can have his pension.
