Late to the party, but I can also confirm what others have said. No high rise is getting built here.

There is supposed to be a new rendering for this project with a different look than what was previously shown, however. At least according to a recent post in this thread.

Hopefully that will be released soon.

Fencing up around the site now. Parking is still open, but might be closing soon?

I'm seriously asking this and not trying to being smart. In what time period has Edmonton's downtown been vibrant and bustling with activity? I do recall the late 80s to the early 90s being pretty good but the struggles of the core have been there since the early 80s.
That being said, I think the core is heading in a really positive direction. The last ten years have been huge for our downtown in terms of development. However, the years of stagnation can't be erased so quickly. The vibrancy we all want for our core is just going to take a lot more planning, investment, people and time. Next 10- 15 years should be huge for this city.
The younger generation of Edmontonians seem to be more open and progressive to change. They'll be the decision makers. They're the one's who'll be shaping this city to it's true potential. The resistance and negativity to change will be removed from the equation.
Not being flip either, but I feel the answer is before the early 1980's. I missed most of it too, just caught the tail end of it. I guess the point is that it hasn't always been as it is now, it was better and I believe it can be again.

Somewhere there is a picture of my grandparents in downtown Edmonton from the late 40s or early 50s taken by a street photographer.

It looked like quite the happening place! Streets were very busy and the old buildings and signs looked great.

I have a picture of my grandma in the same format.

Alley around the park? The north end of the park is not The Shift….the Shift is across the street from the park……no alley work being done on that side

Fencing is for the civil contractor starting to work on the new alley around the park. Nothing starting on this site
Yeah, I went by yesterday and the parking lot is still open, but only accessible from the east side via the alley.

Park paving installed the fence, their work zone ends at the Shift property line. They're also doing the pavers along 108st and have street lighting on the east side of the street. No one said the alley was in the shift lot, relax
