Does Alldritt ever build anything...? Lots of empty lots owned by them across downtown and inner city area just sitting vacant for years and years
Such an unfair comment that overlooks how active they are when it comes to erecting signage for various right-wing candidates in every municipal, provincial, and federal election.

From April 27, 2017 "Coun. Scott McKeen said, he voted against the project arguing it felt like the city was rushing with this development."

From February 15, 2017 "Some councillors worried the city could increase the height allowed only to see the developer flip the land. But the city could veto any deal under the terms of the land sale, as long as it was not “acting unreasonably.”
“Let me make this clear, we will build this tower,” said David Benjestorf, Alldritt’s general manager of land development, while trying to reassure councillors. The company has already invested millions into developing the legacy project.
It comes with a 10-year sunset clause, returning the land to the city if a minimum 40-storey building doesn’t proceed."

I'm from the Toronto area and just discovered this thread. I know most of the recent posts are jokes about how this is never going to happen, but WOW... this thing is a beauty (If built as originally rendered). Stantec certainly did a lot for the Edmonton skyline, but if this thing gets built, it would be THE defining tower for the Edmonton skyline. Construction is just on hold, no? So there's always hope...

Correct. On hold forever.

Haha, what about the site? Will it just sit & rot? Just know I am rooting for you, Edmonton. If you don't start acting soon, Calgary is going to beat you in height with the Stampede Station. In my opinion, Calgary in general already has more interesting architecture on their towers. So Height has kinda been the one strength you guys have had since Stantec, and I am hoping to see you continue in that trend. At least, you guys will always have the better hockey team of the two.

As I recall there was a 10 year agreement related to developing this site and we are a number of year into it now with no sign of anything happening yet. So perhaps Calgary will have a chance to reclaim its bragging rights.

While it has a great river valley view, of course it is not the only good site to build on available in our city. Where the Stantec building is now was previously a parking lot next to an old bus depot and not close to the river valley.

The Quarters is on the edge of downtown and I don't see it as the most logical place to build something huge. The site I feel really should be developed into something big is on 101 Street and 102 Ave, just south of our City Centre Mall/TD Tower. It is in right in the downtown core/financial district, but for various reasons no one here seems enthusiastic about it now either.

Not enough parking unless 3 or 4 floors are purposed for parking.

Calgary doesn't seem as afraid as Edmonton does to build higher than 150 meters. And yes the skyline in Calgary is much more architecturally interesting than Edmonton's rather bland high rises ! 🤷‍♂️
