The Oilers in their hunt for the cup shouldn't despair -- in 1983 the Oilers were swept by the New York Islanders 4 games to none (it was NYI's fourth consecutive Stanley Cup) but the following year marked the beginning of a Stanley Cup run that would see them winning 5 times out of the next 7 years. For several reasons it would be more difficult to repeat that feat in the current hockey era, but it is not impossible. In the earlier era they had Gretzky paired with Kurri and Messier paired with Anderson; they had an exceptional defenseman in Paul Coffey and a "policeman" in Dave Semenko (one of my best friends and a regular at the Roman Pub). In the current era I like McDavid paired with Hyman and Draisaitl paired with Nugent-Hopkins; Bouchard is a stand-out defenseman. I like the current goal-tending tandem. Maybe Frederic will fill the Semenko role? The point is that they are getting close to being an unbeatable team and they are certainly fun to watch.

'The point is that they are getting close to being an unbeatable team'

I don't even know where to start with this one.

My picks for projected Oilers lines:
Ryan Nugent Hopkins -- Connor McDavid -- Zach Hyman
Andrew Mangiapane -- Leon Draisaitl -- Matthew Savoie
Adam Henrique -- Trent Frederic -- Isaac Howard
Kasperi Kapanen -- David Tomasek -- Vasily Podkolzin
Mattias Ekholm -- Evan Bouchard
Darnell Nurse -- Jake Walman
Brett Kulak -- Troy Stecher
Stuart Skinner -- Calvin Pickard

From yesterday's presser:
Additionally, the team announced Paul Coffey will return to his role as a special advisor to ownership and hockey operations, while a contract extension was not offered to goaltending coach Dustin Schwartz.

About time if you ask me.
