Yes correction, WS WestJet Winnipeg YWG- YUL- YWG is year round this winter season, in the past it wasn’t , (if I’m not mistaken).

As for WS YEG - YUL - YEG is temporarily cancelled/suspended for few months due to not demand I guess. As Air Canada currently has a stronghold on YEG -YUL nonstop flights ✈️ year round & AC also have a stronghold on Calgary YYC - YUL route too.

Also plus WestJet doesn’t do as well in Quebec, and they’re not the only 1️⃣, as Flair & Porter has their struggles in Quebec as well✅.

The only 2 Airlines that does very well year round on nonstop flights in Quebec is Air Canada and Air Transat✅.
YUL is a major centre of operations for Air Canada and Air Transat, for Westjet not so much.

Random story/question. Porter/air transit are trying to fuck over our friends at the moment. They got a great price on a flight from Madrid to Edmonton with a stop in YUL. The YUL-YEG portion was cancelled I guess? So now they are trying to force them to go earlier which is impossible for their schedule, or later and they lose two days of their vacation. Is that allowed? Any air passenger rights apply? The first email they got said their flight had been rescheduled but with a new route of MAD-YUL-YYZ-YEG. And the best part was that the flight from Toronto to Edmonton leaves from Toronto an hour before the Montreal-Toronto flight arrives 🤣

Porter does not have the same rules due to being a smaller carrier, they are probably screwed here and it’s why I’d never book them for an itinerary like that. My wife booked one to the us and the first flight was cancelled. The alternative flight where they next had room was 2 weeks later.

No, I don’t think it will have a big effect on Toronto YYZ, Vancouver YVR & Montreal YUL Canada’s 3 busiest airports✅.

Although I could see (some US🇺🇸 flight ✈️ cuts) quietly by airlines at medium & smaller sized airports in Canada 🇨🇦 like : Calgary YYC , Edmonton YEG , Winnipeg YWG, Ottawa YOW or Halifax YHZ . Where a few cancellations here & there & with consolidation of some Canada -US flights, at these airports✅.

(*If*) Canada - US passengers demand drop as we get closer to the (Summer 2025) due to the Trade War /Tariffs ,
I could see WS WestJet maybe 🤔 deciding to cut the *new* Calgary YYC - Anchorage ANC 2x weekly route for this Summer & push it back to (S26). As it will free up a WS Boeing 737 scheduled for 2x weekly to ANC to be used on a higher demand route.
YYC will get absolutely annihilated! Along with their $3.2B in debt the airport has.....yikes!

That seems a bit dramatic, I don't imagine YYC hurting any more than YEG. The debt is pretty insane but that is more of a separate issue compared to this.
Just over 19% of YYC's total passengers are for the trans-border (USA) market, YEG sits at 23%. If anything, that suggests a larger share of Edmonton's passenger demand will take a hit compared to Calgary.
The statistics however are still comparable and the airports will *both* be tackling this challenge.

Kinda cool….United “reps will be on hand”

Interesting that we have a higher trans-border percentage. I am guessing the mix is a bit different, perhaps more business travelers there more leisure here.

I could imagine business travel taking a bigger hit initially, but I feel the hit could be similar in the end.

Ture, but the Peg will still be more of an aerospace hub than both YEG and YYC put together......Smitty bought them this little repair shop, as usual...

I wouldn't be too sure that this will stay the case. Calgary is really putting itself out there with not only WS's primary hub but also the brand new De Havilland facility and now the Lufthansa Technik facility. Times are changing

Obviously, you are a true YYC'er - so I will simply ignore you now. Btw, they haven't turned a molecule of dirt for that De Havilland plant announced 3 years ago....it ain't happening

DH Field actually did break ground, but regardless....

Why does everything with you have to be an "us vs them" mentality regarding YYC? It's almost like your sole purpose of being in this thread is to shit on YYC.
I said this before with you but I will say it again: Not every good thing for Calgary is a direct or personal attack on Edmonton like you interpret it to be.
