The commerical taxation structure in this city is anti business, the parking fees downtown is anti business, the regulatory framework is anti business, the stupid patio tax is anti business.

It blows my mind how in Edmonton we fail so much at projects when it is home to many global EPC/M firms.

Parking fees downtown? I think the rates are just fine. If we're talking about free parking, no we are not a small Alberta town anymore.

Weekdays (during the day) and Saturdays the rates are fine. It’s Sunday and weeknights until 9 pm on non-event days that the city introduced that shouldn’t have been implemented (yes they will need to at some point, but our DT just isn’t there yet to justify it).

I am usually downtown on Saturday and with the exception of specific events or certain areas it is really not that busy generally. Sunday is usually fairly dead.

So I really don't think the logic for extending paid parking to Sunday ever made any sense. When half or more than the paid parking spots in many parts of downtown are empty, there is no excess demand that needs to be charged for. We may not be a small town, but we are not New York or Toronto either.

I can agree here - free all day on Sunday and weekday evenings after 6PM outside of events makes sense to me.

It shouldn't surprise anyone - Edmonton political leadership has generally been anti-business for many many decades. This is why socialist Edmonton lost most of its corporate clout to Calgary many years ago - its one of the factors in Calgary becoming the undisputed corporate HQ and primate city in this province. There are consequences for how people vote. The decimation of Edmonton's beautiful "neighbourhoods of privilege" is the new siren call for the righteous virtue signalling elected officials like Knack. Edmonton's most "progressive" riding consistently votes in Heather McPherson who is a anti-semitic Israel hating anti-capitalist. This is what Edmonton is.

This is what Edmonton is.

Good to know. I happened to go by the day the day they had it in the old Shoppers space, it did seem fairly busy and was I wondering what it was. The space in front of Winners is probably better. If it works, keep doing it.
