I grew up in similar courtyard type buildings in Poland. The communist era ones were ugly as sin but every last one had a green space in the centre with benches for the olds and simple playgrounds for the littles. They were community hubs. And a pleasant place to overlook. I'll never understand North America's endless obsession with parking.
i was just on krakow and was gonna say it looked alot like some of the apartments we saw in the small towns around the city. .
 
I'll beat the drum again that what makes projects like this disappointing isn't architecture but landscaping and integration within the urban fabric
I agree with the sentiment but in my experience landscape and urban fabric integration are the last things on developers' mind.
