Another good reason to have parking between the driving lane and the bike lane, instead of having the bike lane in the middle: Cars packed down the snow too much for plows to clear, and now it's an icy mess, whereas the protected segment of the bike lane is clear. It's gotten worse since this picture was taken (Jan. 4), and there are really big ruts too.

Thanks for sharing pic! I like sending these to the city's Active transportation team for awareness so I am going to forward this pic.

Personal opinion - as a winter city, I think the wider bi-directional lanes are more suitable than single lanes. In winter as snow gets piled up or melts and gets icy, it starts to create less and less path whereas there is more room to play with when bidirectional.
