I would share that people have been asking this city for over a year to explain what is actually going on with bridge closures. Either this was part of their plan, OR they got some pressure to solidify to the public what’s actually going on.

First Edmonton location.

As just one example, I'm sure the City considers 107th Avenue to be an alternative access to downtown from the west end. Except that 107th Avenue eastbound has been reduced to a single lane for months now.
They said in the presentation that this was an unplanned issue that EPCOR had to fix, and their priority is keeping 107 Ave at two lanes in each direction. Regarding other mitigations: They chose a very simple bridge design for Wellington, and are starting work in the winter, so that the schedule can be accelerated (but it has to happen because they've had to do an increasing number of adjustments to the temporary scaffolding); they're also delaying the Wellington Bridge until the VLW acceleration work is done; they changed the scope of Dawson Bridge so that it doesn't need a full closure this year; and Jasper Ave will go down to one lane in each direction only during the construction season, during-which they'll complete the entire phase, so that come winter it's back up to two lanes in each direction.

Not saying they are or are not doing enough, but it does seem like they're making an effort to account for broader impacts.

Yes, it seems like they are making an effort here. I'm not sure if this happened in response to recent public pressure and concern.

This should have happened earlier, perhaps the various planning was disconnected and they did not realize the implications until then.

Many of the fast food places here are US chains: McDonalds, Wendy's and Starbucks immediately come to mind.

I don't know how serious all this boycott talk is, but it might be better to focus a boycott on the more established ones rather than someone new trying to start up.

I prefer Canadian fast food chains such as Tim Hortons (but only if I can't find something better), A&W and Second Cup.
