This looks like a useful motion from Dianne Saxe - who does seem to be on top of things. Far too many 'fake e-bikes' (ie mopeds or small motor bikes) in cycling lanes and pathways.

I really dislike them in the bike lanes but I can't see this ever being enforced -- and with car drivers constantly stopping/parking in the bike lanes or up on sidewalks because they can, nearly always with impunity -- I can't see a world where an Ebike-but-no-the-bad-kind stop being in bike lanes...

The whole thing makes me think of this:

Wow did they ever widen that. i know they did that to make it an access road, but it really detracts from the walk-in-the-woods feel.

On further examination, I do see restoration/planting here will be done in fall.

That's not ideal (better than summer!) but a month ago would have been perfect. Oh well.

If it can run solely on its motor, electric or petroleum powered it should be a motorcycle. The only motorized two wheelers allowed on bike lanes should be pedal assist bikes.

I'm okay with escooters (that are appropriately speed limited) in bike lanes/paths as well. They make more sense there than mixed with traffic.
 
What can the city do in this stretch to stop people from parking in the bike lane? Every time I walk or cycle by here there is someone parked in the bike lane, mostly taxis and Ubers. View attachment 656502View attachment 656503
I biked by here today and wondered why I keep taking Bay because of how often the bike lane has cars parked in it.

Would you be fine with mopeds (2nd from top) in bike lanes/paths if their gov't mandated speed was reduced from 50 kph to the same 32 kph limit as electric scooters?

The city already has rules for all that and for many other things. There's no point in creating yet another set of rules if there is no enforcement.

Enforcement costs money. If the city council were serious about any of their rules and bylaws, they would allocate funds for enforcement. Without that, it's just empty talk.

Those are heavier and less nimble than scooters, so maybe not. I think generally pedal assist is okay, but for scooters that is impractical.

I agree 100% that it is pointless for governments to pass laws but then not put $$ into enforcement. In the case of who can use bike lanes, I think Saxe is trying to get the City's rules adjusted so they make sense, fit into the Provincial framework and can actually be enforced easily.
 
Looking for information on plans for the south end of Don Mills Trail:
This is a nice trail, but at its south end (south of Lawrence, east of Leslie) it leads to nowhere. It stops at a dead end some distance from Eglinton.
Does anybody know the latest official plans for connecting the trail to something? There used to be a plan to build an overpass over the adjacent rail line, so the trail would continue eastward. Not sure what happened to that idea. To the west there is a paved road leading to Leslie, privately owned and fenced off. This road is an idle asset that has not been used for many years, so surely the city could make a deal with the owner and open the road to the public.

The box on the left is the current year, so that would read as construction in 2027, tentatively.
 
On this above topic of Don Mills Crossing. I was out biking last night and this is a view of Eglinton and the new Crosstown neighbourhood from the south of some of the mountain bike trails. It appears now that there is a new, either drainage or path, under Eglinton. Additionally on the old Celestica round-about ramp, there is paved path beside the ramp now. I didn't take a photo unfortunately. This will make for a nice bike connection for that community into the Don. Based on the construction fencing I think there may be a path contemplated to connect to the gravel offshoot of the West Don Trail.
