Many of the suburban arterial roads in the 1950's that evolved from 2-lane country concession roads had plans to become 6-lane stroads. They set aside space for widening the 4-lanes to 6-lanes, especially noticeable at railway underpasses or railway overpasses. They have the space for segregated cycling lanes, IF we stay with 4-lane traffic lanes.

Yeah I agree. I was going to ask them to keep the sidewalk and cycling track separate.

Edit: Although, they're doing the MUTs only for two short segments. I assume it's because the ROW is not wide enough through there.

The Ontario gov't as one of its final pre-election acts has hired an engineering firm to do the design work on cycle track removal on Bloor, University and Yonge.

Irritating though this is, and a gross misuse of public funds.......it also means the Cycle Tracks will be safe well into spring, and perhaps beyond as the design work will take awhile, then tendering of construction would follow that.

Is this for sections or the entirety?

I suspect the folks at City Hall who want to do what they can to protect our bike lanes don't see having a very public fight during the election campaign as the best strategy. Following the election there will probably be a lot more opportunity to delay and whittle down the destruction.

@Northern Light - why shouldn’t it come to pass anymore? Olivia Chow seems not to care and quiet on that file. I see no real opposition!
For one, the pressure to do something won't be as much if the Tories don't get re-elected.

Secondly, the latest polling only gatv Ford a (strong) minority. And historically when you call an election after only 3 years, the electorate further penalizes you. Let alone after closer to 2.5 years.

I have no idea why they are calling an election that may well not give them a majority, rather than waiting until June 2026.

I for one am prepared to donate my Ford bribery cheque to whoever is the strongest opposition candidate in Prabmeet Sarkaria's riding.
