The Star's wine critic praising Costco over some of the wines they are offering and their value pricing:

OF note, the six wines she lightlights are all priced below LCBO price, generally around ~10% less, though in one case, closer to ~20% off. So far as I understand the current pricing regime, that means Costco is more or less selling many wines at-cost.

I wonder if they will do the same with beer prices? Too bad they can't carry hard liquor. I actually like the Kirkland Tequila. Of course a one liter bottle of tequila in the US at Costco is like 30 bucks or less.

If you want to Kirkland in Canada, send in your email now; I know the province is considering allowing private label wine (not sure about the hard stuff). But they will release a set of changes before Christmas.....time is ticking.

As unfortunate as most of that list is (promoting Bread & Butter - which is on brand for her), there's been talk that the Kirkland branded wines probably won't see shelves until 2026 in Ontario.

For a fleeting moment, I was excited at the chance to finally grab Kirkland Barolo and Brunello.

As noted in my reply above, currently, private-label wine is prohibited in Ontario. The province is considering changing that, and we will know their answer by Christmas. If you want it permitted here, send in your email.

Beer is being sold near cost as well at Costco. Top 10 and Moosehead plus Flying Moneky Juicy Ass, Steam Whitle, Beaus, and Muskoka to get the 20% Small Brewer/Craft. Molson Candain 60 Pack 355 ml can for 84.99.

As with Wine, I have learned, Costco has removed sales tax from the on-the-shelf price, but you still pay it at the cash.

So the prices aren't as good as they seem.

Pricing policy really should be consistent.

I remember when I first heard beer was so much cheaper in Quebec (its not really, it is a little bit cheaper); but the big thing was if you bought it retail, sales tax was added at the cash.

I haven't actually compared prices directly, but my feeling when shopping for alcohol (beer) in Quebec is that it feels more expensive, not cheaper.

So... Between the Caledon/Brampton border, a proposal for a new Costco is born.

The major intersection is Mayfield and Creditview which is essentially the Caledon area. Super excited about this because it means we're going to be getting a gas station at this location if the application does go through.

Nothing is more depressing to me than the Costco gasbar. Dozens of cars idling for 20 minutes, spewing fumes, to say a dollar per tank on fuel.
I mean costco gas is typically ~10 cents a litre cheaper. That's $6/tank for a typical 60 litre tank.. drive a truck, it's $12.

Also gas lines are only 20 minutes during Saturday afternoon rushes. I've bought tonnes of Costco gas and have never waited more than 1 or 2 cars at most, the vast majority of time I just drive right in, because I don't gas up at Costco on a Saturday afternoon.

Hold on..... Brampton's greatest transit champion is most excited about a future gas station?

Clearly you don't think this whole electric car fad is going to stick. LOL

I try to find value for gas outside of Costco stations. In my neck of the woods, the Pioneer stations on Dupont near Lansdowne and St Clair West near Runnymede are by far the cheapest options. Same with a less conveniently located Mobil on Black Creek Drive near Eglinton. They usually come within reach of Costco prices, and may even go at-par or slightly cheaper depending on the timing. Typically evenings are cheap, but gotta get in before midnight when they adjust the prices to next day's levels again.

For the GTA I find that gas prices often vary based on location. The Dufferin corridor of Thornhill all the way down to Finch is cheaper than average. Same with Kennedy/Courtneypark/Derry area of Mississauga, and parts of the Tam O'Shanter area of Scarborough.

Whereas I've caught that other areas like Dufferin & Lawrence and all the way up to Yorkdale, along with most of Markham are pretty expensive on average.

A short line is one thing. It also depends how close you live to said Costco. If the drive is 15 min each way plus a 20 min wait to save $6, well you're saving just over $7 per hour of your time. My time is worth a lot more to me than that.
