Wait a minute...didn't Orange Gallery get controversially booted from this building because District Realty had undisclosed plans for the property?! Now it's For Lease??

Has that been there for a while? A few months ago, I noticed a "For Lease" sign on the Laurier office building, in front of 150 Elgin, Jadco is supposed to redevelop into a residential building. When I checked Google Street View, that sign had been there for over a decade.

Well, it definitely went up after Orange was booted, just not sure when!

I checked the city's heritage designation list, and it appears this building was added in 2024. The owners - not sure what they were smoking - seriously thought that the city was going to roll over and let them demolish one of the real gems in this part of the city while vast acres in the vicinity already sit empty. I noticed the lease sign a few weeks ago.

The Buzz had a story.

Why do property owner/developers kick out tenants before they have all approvals and are ready to build?

I searched my photo library, I took a picture when the For Lease sign went up on Orange Art Gallery - it was March 14th 2025

Coming up on two years vacant.

An AI/software company that makes software for landlords is now moving into the former Orange Art Gallery/CN Rail Bank building at City Centre.

A popular cultural/event space in a heritage building being replaced by a literal landlord software company is almost beyond parody. I won't grant them free advertising by naming the company. Maybe they should have just torn it down after all 🙃
