As someone that lives super close by, this project is really satisfying to see complete. Saw it up close today and rode this new gravel path they built circling the neighboring field. Everything is so well done, especially for Churchill Meadows.

From this afternoon - It looks like they've added some white metal mesh around the exposed wood planks. It looks fine from a distance but not as good as it did simply exposed. But I guess this protects the wood from the elements so eh whatever

This project was just announced as the winner of Ontario's biennial Lieutenant Governor's Award for Design Excellence in Architecture

The complex was awarded the Governor General's Medal in Architecture.

Situated within a growing suburb, the project converts a 50-acre site into richly textured parkland, with a 75,000 SF community centre as its focus. The centre’s simple yet veiled mass is integrated with the park to form a neighbourhood landmark and city-wide destination. The striking canopy that runs along the facades extends and makes visible the mass timber structure—an array of glulam columns that provide structural and curtainwall framing. Interior amenities include a natatorium, gymnasium, teaching kitchen, and multi-purpose and fitness rooms. A trail loop connects all park programs and passes by environmental stewardship zones, protected wetland, and stormwater management pond.
