I wonder if she plans to use her campaign funds for the coming defamation lawsuits and human rights tribunals.

Wait a minute - what exactly does Jennifer Rice have to do with Chinatown? That is, aside from the fact that she's an Asian politician? Why not post in the Municipal Politics thread?

Road work is done, sidewalk walk is ongoing

I meant the new crossing over 107 ave (parallel to 97 st). It looks like it crosses the road at sidewalk level instead of dropping down?

Does anyone anything about the empty lot on SE corner of 98 St and 107 Ave, where a church used to be? Feels like there could be a good opportunity for a mixed-use development there at some point.

Won't see much there for a while I suspect, given there is not a whole lot of demand in Chinatown for new development at the moment. Only thing under construction is the three-storey mixed-use building across the alley from Xing Wang Bakery on 98 Street at the northern edge of Chinatown.

Yeah, I suspected as much. With the streetscape improvements around that area, it'd be interesting to see if anything gets built in the next decade there. It is quite close to Hope Mission, though, which probably doesn't make the area attractive.

Neighbourhood renewal is complete in Chinatown and it has definitely been "economized" from the original plan. 98 street, 99 street, and 107 avenue were supposed to be redesigned with more space for sidewalks and trees to attract more visitors than just homeless people. Instead, there has been no meaningful change. After all the talk of supporting Chinatown, the City just repaved existing roads and left sidewalks narrow. It looks like a big parking lot. BIG LET DOWN!

What do you mean by the 'original plan'? If you are referring to the final design, what has been built seems to reflect it:
