compared to One Park Tower, Chicago turned out a model of restraint.......

I actually don't mind the look of it. It's a little strange, mainly because we don't have many buildings that look like that, but I think that people will eventually come to enjoy a different look from the rest of the skyline.

Good to see 2 stories out of five featuring Mississauga. Shows lack of bias towards downtown which is something I like.

It's actually not bad for a suburban development.
Nice to see it's not a mass of beige stucco.
I still don't like naming developments after other cities though.

I'll agree with everything neuhaus just said. Also, I actually like the townhomes, especially the facades around the courtyard. Distinguished without being kitschy, for the most part.

I'd prefer real historicism in materials and finishes. And why is it that even in terms of upscale projects,low-rise residential buildings are built with ugly white pipes sticking out of them? (See the last photo.) Who approves of these things?

Seems like a nice building. I don't understand why townhouses are there though. I can understand podiums and low-rises next to high-rises but this recent trend of townhouses next to high-rises makes no sense to me. It looks like the city had a personality disorder when it came to zoning. It is what I don't like about HVE, and the condos on the western waterfront. I find lining a park with midrises more appropriate than lining it with townhouses which makes if feel less public to me.

The overall effect is interesting, however i have 2 criticisms for this development.

1. - the windows in the highrise do not seem like they could circulate air in a room adequately, as they open only in tiny slits, not sliding or opening up to any major degree. This will cause excess energy to be used to cool (and hopefully clean) the air in the units, burdening ontario hydro, and making the air in the units stale and chemical smelling. unhealthy and environmentally unconscious.

2. the last 3 photos depicting the townhouses reveal the addition of artificial dormers on the roof. YUCK, how deceitful and tacky. not only are they cheaply made and obviously fake, but they are significantly smaller than the real windows, making them appear like little baby heads on top of morbidly obese bodies. and the heads are empty as well, leading me to think this practice is totally retarded.
These windows were widely used in a suburban development at Jane and Major Mack (Around Boom ave and America Drive) about twelve years ago. Today, the cheaper materials of the faux dormers has made them more obvious than ever, as they re even made out of different materials than the rest of the house ( like the ones above as well) with some having the black 'window' thing discolor, i saw one with the 'window' hanging off the house like a loose shutter, it made the neighborhood have the feeling of a post-rapture movie set

they really should be removed.

other than that, its pretty cool.

oh and im not against dormers, they're actually really great, its just the fake ones that are just empty boxes nailed onto the roof that i think are terrible. they are architectural lies.
