Very poorly,

Agreed.

last time I checked its a Monday-Saturday bus that comes every 150 minutes. Bus stops on the side of a sidewalk-less highway 50

Route 41 is peak period service only and every 110M

Technically both of the routes below also serve Caledon (but just, and not Bolton, just Brampton burbs)

Route 81 (Mayfield West) is peak and mid-day at 45M

Service at most northerly stop Caledon stop - route 41: (weekdays only)

What's the point? May as well not even bother.

Yep, tried quite hard to find a way to use transit to get home from my cousins place in Caledon place on a sunday morning over the summer. Needless to say I ended up in a $40 uber lol.

There is existing (limited) GO service running N-S:

I agree more service is warranted, when service is so poor its very hard to judge medium term demand.

That said, the chicken/egg problem does bedevil large service subsidies:

They are aspiring to better.....eventually, one day, maybe:

There's a lot more of the above info in their 2024 multi-modal transportation plan:

They should have extended the on demand service to Caledon/Bolton.

I mean Brampton.

They did that pilot for Belleville.

Brampton has just one on-demand service, the conversion of Route 40, a limited service industrial route with the lowest ridership in the system. It’s a long way away from Bolton, and because Caledon has Brampton Transit service under contract, they are the ones who have to negotiate for more service.

Meanwhile, BT has enough problems trying to match service with demand; even if it could (and I suspect it could), adding service to a contracted route unilaterally would not be at the top of its priorities when it could fill buses added on its own turf.

I mean, Isn't this the problem with any rail service discussion in the 905? It's hard to gauge demand because everyone drives. Meanwhile, local transit is simultaneously not good nor desired by the populace, so it doesn't materialize. Not to mention local transit use would improve if there was a destination like a GO station to actually go to; where are Bolton/Caledon residents gonna ride a bus that's worth foregoing their car?

My point being, for better or worse existing transit use is rarely the traditional basis for new GO expansions, until recently and in different contexts. So if we want to estimate the value of this service, go back to basics and ask how many cars this will take off the road. Local transit can grow from there.

To conclude, the earlier a GO line can shape a suburb, the better. The 905 Isn't a panacea of baked-in greenfield TOD, but places like Markham, Brampton, Oakville etc. have areas where easy GO access is part of the 'lifestyle' being sold to residents. If that's what conventional GO service does-- and it was clearly good enough for GO then-- we might as well do that for areas next up, too. The alternative is a very busy 427 (and I guess 413, though won't be the same trip patterns).
