Former Menagerie pet store on Parliament.

How long before this "hotel" devolves into another Waverly-esque flophouse given the shit area it's in??
I don't think it will devolve into a flophouse. It will start as a flophouse. It is hard to imagine what kind of hotel could be created inside this building. The application says, "The east side of the ground floor will remain a pharmacy". The pharmacy was on the west side of the ground floor and has been gone for at least a couple of years. I suspect this is a stop-gap measure to get revenue from this property until more land around it can be assembled for a large tower. The house directly on the north side was demolished last year. The property owner may have a contract with the city to house homeless people in this building

Wing Machine is for sale. This would make for a fantastic cafe location. Especially with Regent Park’s new market value tower at Parliament and Gerrard completing this year.

I bow to the powers of gentrification. Bring it on!

I wonder what is up with the row of Victorian houses next to the LCBO pictured above. It seems like renovations have been ongoing for over 5 years with little progress. I looked at Google Street view and the image from 2 years ago looks almost the same as today. How can there be so little progress on this project? What could be the hold up?

I drove down Parliament recently and noticed that row of Victorians sitting stagnant too. Dixon Hall are supposed to be in charge of renovating and operating those in partnership with the City of Toronto and Toronto Community Housing. They had this article release way back in August 2020 and claimed that construction was expected to finish around Spring 2021, which clearly isn't the case. I went through all the news pieces in their media centre and they don't have any subsequent updates at all on this project.

Dixon Hall is often a poor property manager. They’ve taken over the church property at 188 Carlton Street and the historic windows are melted and broken.

It has been listed for sale since last summer, and Park Snacks didn't open for the season at all this year.

I didn't buy much from Park Snacks, but I walk past it often, and really miss having it as part of the neighbourhood character.

I'd love to see someone buy the house and expand it into something like Riverdale Perk, though based on this article from The Star, it doesn't seem likely.

I have seen Park Snacks open at least twice so far this spring! They don't seem to have any posted hours that I can find, but I'm thrilled to see them back open again. Seems to be the same guy working there as before. This is great for the neighbourhood, and it's nice to see people on the patio again.
